So is it just bad luck?

Recommended Posts

Last summer we needed a new fridge, one bonus of the new one was the internal light would actually work as the old fridge hadn't had a bulb for about a year. The new fridge duly arrived, we opened the door once and the bulb blew and we had to wait a week for a new bulb so the light worked.

This summer we order a fridge-freezer and they failed to delivery on three occiasions before we actually got it.

Two weeks ago the oven on the cooker broke - as it was 10+ yrs old so we opted to buy new rather than get it repaired. The new cooker arrived last Wednesday, was installed Thursday morning and all checked as working. That night (1st use) the k"Ooops, word censored!" on the main oven failed - given it is a high tech all singing all dancing oven we needed an engineer not just a new k"Ooops, word censored!". He came, but had to order the part and hopes to be back Friday to fix it.

Today a sideboard (order 2 months ago) was due to be delivered - OH wanted me to empty the old one and get it out of the way before the delivery (it will be going to charity). I said let's wait to see if it is actually here, not scratched, etc before we do anything. Last night we get the call to remind us of today's delivery, and this morning we get the time call. Then they ring to say they have broken down on the motorway - so we await atleast another week for it!

I think I am going to give up buying things new!

Oh dear, maybe you're not meant to have these things!

I don't think I am meant to go on holiday - yet again, the trip I've booked has been cancelled due to insufficient take-up on those dates. This happened three years ago when I'd booked a safari holiday to Africa - quite unexpectedly I then decided to move house so I never re-booked it. I'd booked a trip to Cuba in January with the same company, and again it's been cancelled. :(

I don't know if I can do the new dates they've offered ... maybe it's a sign that I should stay at home and spend the money on the garden instead!

It's so frustrating dealing with big ananymous companies when "customer service" is meaningless. For this reason everything in our place is positively ancient - i hate the thought of ordering anything and then having to wait weeks/months for deliveries. Hope everything comes eventually, Tracy. Ax

The law of averages suggest that you should be in for a better time now! Join the club for everything that can will go wrong. We had new double glazing and soffits etc done. The guys for the roof work were brilliant - the different people who did the windows (still for the same company) were what I call "The Orally Men" from Faulty Towers. Very frustrating. Thing was the company was recommended by neighbours - it's only us that had problems. I think I live in an unlucky house.

There's no such thing as 'The law of averages'...(Had a whole maths lecture at college on it yesterday). I just think it's bad luck and I'm amazed at how unlucky you've been. At least in most circumstances they're things which are covered by warranty though. :)

They finally repaired the new cooker today - very nice man (who owns an Eglu) he did the job at 7.30 am, before he started officially at 8 am, so I could get to work and have a cooker for the weekend.

...so just the furniture to get re-delivered now.

So, but I failed to ask - too busy looking at what he was doing to the cooker!

I once had an unlucky car - my Dad made me sell it, if only for his peace of mind

Four shunts in one year, none of them my fault and it was bright red for goodness sakes, hardly invisible.

Red cars have more prangs than any other colour I read somewhere and they are really not the best to see! - believe it or not.

I should not have read this as my ceramic hob ring has just gone tonight and cannot find out how to sort it.

I changed to a red one after my bright blue one was finally demolished by locals. I decided that they would think twice and not hit a post office red car/fire chief's car. So far so good, touch wood.

On the other hand green is supposed to be unlucky. I had a peppermint green car and 3 people drove into it in total - luckily never written off, but I had a new drivers side wing, new rear and a new side. I just needed someone to hit me in front to make it completely rust free! And it didn't cost me a penny because it was all the other drivers who "couldn't see me".

We had a crystal green Escort years ago and that was very unlucky for us as it just had one problem after another & almost bankrupted us, regarding colour we had a Levante grey Mondeo which I renamed stealth grey, I swear the car was invisible, cars pulled out in front of me left, right and centre & people leapt off of pavements into my path like there was no tomorrow.

I had 3 accidents all whilst stationary  a guy reversed out of his drive across the road and straight into the side of me, another guy smashed straight into the back of me & a third guy reversed into the front of the car

My Mum will never have a green car again after an accident we had when i was at primary school. We were waiting for another child, who we used to give a lift home, to come out of school, when a tree fell on the car, an Austin Maxi. Mum had very bad concussion from the accident. We all had to climb out of the drivers side window, power lines and phone wires were brought down and we blocked that part of the village off. Mum still can't go in a car wash over 30 years later, the noise reminds her of the tree falling.
