What do you lot do with all the !eggwhite!!eggbrown!!egggreen!!eggbrown!!eggblue!!eggbrown!!eggspeck!!eggbrown!

Do you sell them?

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Sore point here at the moment. 41 chooks, two days running we've no had eggs :boohoo: To be fair, some are retired, some are resting for the winter, some are moulting, some are too young to lay and some are boys so it's a physical impossibility. But I really would like a few eggs today please birdies

I sell my spare eggs, but have so many interested customers I can't keep supply up with demand

I have just started operating a waiting list system which is prioritised. Phil and I are top priority, followed by Grandad and Phils parents (these eggs are free  ), then my closest friends are the next priority (they asked for "mates rates", I told them that "mates rates" is they stand a chance of getting them  ), then mine and Phils work friends, then other random people (who basically now stand no chance at all :anxious: )

It may sound complicated but I think its fair :D

We started with 3 Pepperpots in May 07 in an Eglu, then one died in August 07, so we got a White Star and a Light Sussex and a run extension. Dippy the White Star died in May and eggs were not so forthcoming by this summer, so we built a wooden house and a WIR down the side of the house, and bought 5 youngsters. So that gave us 8, but one of the original Pepperpots is going down hill fast, so I think we will be 7 by then end of the day :(

Started with 3 in an Eglu, then had two batches of table chickens (11) in a Rablu, then went to 6 egg layers in a cube. Currently we still have them, plus a batch of 11 table birds in an eglu (will be split into 2 when they get a bit bigger, they are 5½ weeks at the mo).

Told OH I was going to get two chickens and came home with three. That was early August, now have two ex batts in seperate house at moment but am thinking when they go in the big run with the other girls I will have spare house and run. Can't have it standing empty.

already have expansion plans in mind for the Spring. Definately addictive, chickens

sooooooo glad im not the only one- started with one rescue cockeral, who then needed a girlf f so bought two, one of which crowed! so then had to get another and somehow it snowballed into two cockerals, a cochin, a cream legbar, ten ex batts, two marans, a peacock and hen, three geese and a partridge in a pear tree- well no partridge but the rest are here!!!!! now how did that happen!!!

I started with 4 pure breeds, then took on 3 ex batts. Sadly, one of my ex batts did not survive the rescue, but the other 2 are still going strong. I think 6 is a good number, and don't really plan to have more than that, but you just never know, do you??

Obviously, a chicken of fate would never be turned away ...

Wow! this is a brilliant thread!!!!

I only started in October this year. October the 3rd to be precise.

We have a home made Wooden coop with enough room for at least 7 or 8 hens with a fairly large WIR.

We Currently have 5 rescue chickens ((ex free range) that were in just as bad a condition as ex batts. Fail to see how they can call that free range, bless their hearts.)

Only 3 of them were supposed to be mine, one was my sisters and one was my OH's. But as I'm the one that poo-picks, feeds, cleans, baths them etc etc they're really all mine.

I'm the one thats on here learning about them, I'm the one with the books about them, I'm the one that knows when they lay, what treats they like, what food they like, how much they eat and I'm the one that knows they're personalities and loves them. (I'm also the one they love and come running over to see)

.... So, although the actual number of chickens hasnt increase (YET) my number has gone from 3 to 5 in a month..

hey

I was really good for two years. I started with three and for those two years i didn't add to them.

I then lost one

gained two

Rescued one (forum request)

bought three

rescued one (forum request)

lost one.

in the space of about a year

so running total at the moment is 8 (all of whom are either moulting or not laying due to age so i have a grand total of no eggs today :wall: ) no doubt the numbers will change before long

May 2007 (red eglu) with Buzz & Poppy 2

May 2008 Gertrude & Rosa added 4

June 2008 (red eglu) sold & (cube purple) with WIR bought

Feb 2009 (green eglu) and Petra ( white crested blue Poland ) & Ella ( white silkie ) 6

May 2009 the 5 home-hatched light sussex (3 boys, 2 girls) 11

June 2009 rehomed a (green eglu) with 3 hens 14

August 2009 3 new hens rehomed to my friend who had lost some of his hens, & (green eglu) sold 11

August 2009 the cockerels dispatched for eating 8

August 2009 Petra too noisy, so rehomed to Ms Marple, along with Ella 6

September 2009 (green eglu) sold

So now I have a (cube purple) with a WIR & 6 hens :D which is a good, manageable figure for my garden. So far I haven't lost a hen, apart from dispatchinng the cockerals.
