I've got her original Christmas one that OH swears by. I make the bread sauce from it and we all love it.

 

I'm looking forward to the specials on television.

The baggage was very rude about vegetarians once and then promptly jumped on the bandwagon and produced a book of veggie recipes - so I won't buy her books, but do look at some of her online recipes.....I know they always work.....and I'm not lining her pockets

OOh dont remember that - naughty Delia what did she say. i love a bit of goss. I also find things throw themselves into my trolley/basket etc. I try to explain to OH but he doesnt understand.

I am very tempted by the new book, has it got quite a few different recipes from the original? I love the Christmas book and use it for most of my Christmas cooking.

I'd say about half from the old book, and half new.

 

I'm still at the turning the pages and savouring every recipe stage.

She did retire from cookery about 5 years ago to focus on the fotball club - what with the re-release of an old 70s recession buster cookbook and this one, plus the series to support it starting BB2 next week it looks like the football isn't going very well.

She can be very patronising, but I know for a fact that I wouldn't be nearly so adventurous as a cook without her initial instuction.

I know that Delia is the Queen of Cookery and she certainly knows what she is talking about .... but just sitting here watching this now she is making me feel very inadequate and I think i'm a pretty good cook.

 

Her kitchen is tidy .... she doesn't have a sink full of empties ..... she has new saucepans and she hasn't taken out a second mortgage to buy the ingredients. Cooking and entertaining for 8 days over christmas would bankrupt me and leave me exhausted .... do you think she has little elves to do the washing up?

I think she has an army of elves helping her. Did you see the 'hand' carving the turkey. Far to manly a hand to be St Delia's!

 

I thought that the Christmas special was great. Did feel that it had a touch of Nigella though

I didn't watch, but I remember her being interviewed a few years ago (after she retired from telly / cooking) and they went into her garden - she had a whole shed full of serving dishes & cooking containers at the end of her garden from the 'old telly days' - racks and racks of them - a whole shed of redundant shelved containers!

Well 2-0 to Delia - 2 digs at chefs Antony WT must be seething. My cholesterol went up a notch just watching. Oh I s'pose is Christmas. She has a lovely house didnt see any chucks thou'. Didnt notice manly hand. OH and I were discussing if she'd had botox as my dad said he'd read she had To me she looked like she was growing old gracefully. OH was saying she used to be in beauty contests in her youth. Also nice mog we kept getting shots of. funny how we never see celebs mogs digging holes in garden to spend a penny or using litter tray

Me and hubbie started watching it last night and ended up turning it off. She is just not living in the real world in our view as in most peoples dreams would they have time to site down and chop candied peel to relax......

The pastry is feuilles de brick (brick pastry) but have no idea where you would get it from!

I think it is the stuff I bought from Waitrose and tried to make a mincemeat and apple strudel from and it was like sweet leathery paper

The Sundora candied whole peel is delicious, a bit of a pain to chop but with a sharp knife it's no so bad and it makes all the difference to Delia's mincemeat, made mine on Monday
