Help with tarpaulins for WIR

Recommended Posts

toolspot.co.uk and Allplas.co.uk are two other companies that have been mentioned for clear tarps
I've just taken delivery of a 15' x 6' glass clear tarpaulin from Allplas.co.uk (see http://www.allplas.co.uk/acatalog/Clear_Tarps.html). They have just reduced their prices to match Tarpaflex (who have been out of stock for a while). It arrived in 3 days, but it's been too wet and windy to put it up this weekend :(.

Just to update everyone with a picture, I've now managed to install sturdy hooks onto the frame of the WIR, and put up my tarpaulin.

I have to say it looks great and being glass-clear, does not in any way darken the inside of the WIR. The chooks can easily see out down the garden, and I can just as easily see them inside the run 8). Now I just need to wait for the soggy Aubiose to dry out :?.

I'm tagging on this thread, rather than start a new one as my query is similar.

I have a 2m x 3m wir, with a covered roof. The weather has been so bad recently that the aubiose is pretty soggy. If I get tarps to shield the sides, how would it be best to use them?

I don't want to box them in and have little ventilation, so was thinking that maybe I'd just have the tarp half way up the run sides on, say, three sides?

Most pics I've spotted on here has them top to bottom, but wouldn't that be a bit like a goldfish bowl in such a small run?

but if you don't the water will drip AND drive in,

I see what you mean though!

Mine is approx the same size as yours. However it has no roof of it's own as it is in car port, but I do have wind cover(clear tarp) on one end, and total fence behind on one side, then approx 5ft away another wind break clear tarp wher the wind drives the rain into the car port.

Hope that makes sense.

Maybe pick 2 or sides that prevailing wind & rain drives in?

As you can see from my earlier picture, I have the Tarpaulin protecting just one side. This is the side the rain drives in at. The neighbours fence protects the left-hand-side. The hedge and trees at the end of my garden protect the other long side of the run, but allow good ventilation.

The bottom of the tarpaulin is held down with heavy weight blocks, but even so they do lift in stronger winds. If gale are forecast, I shall remove the tarp - at 15' x 6', it will act as a huge sail and I'm sure the run will suffer.

Could you peg the bottom of the tarps out away from the run (like a tent fly sheet) ro would that encourage the wind to take them off?

Thats what I have done (sort of) I have put the tarp on the side of the run, staple gunned it on and but the bottom third unstapled and draped about a foot away from the run, this has the added benefit of taking any rain falling from the roof away from the base of the run, you could wind the bottom around a wooden pole to weigh it down but mine doesnt seem to flap
