Popcorn
Anyone got any good idea on how to do this successfully? I ended up getting rid of half my tomatoes with the skin yesterday. They did go to the chooks, but nevertheless, I could have done with making a better job.
Mrs Frugal
Pour boiling water on them for a minute or two then the skin should just slip off! Good luck, chuckles.
AnnieP
I do this, but cut a little cross in the tops first: This usually starts to peel when I've dropped them in a bowl of boiled water and gives you an easy way to peel it.... it sometimes peels itself! Mrs Frugal
Forgot to add the bit about the cut Annie . Thanks !
Egluntyne
I drop them into a pan of boiling water for 30 secs and then into really cold water. Works quite well.

I can never get this to work either - will try the tips above though - thanks
Popcorn
Oohh, thanks Kate and Annie! It sounds so obvious, now you mention the boiling water. I've been trying to make tomato sauce for some bolognase and made a right mess of it Will get a fresh batch this afternoon and give it another go. Jackie - makes a good weaning recipe! Tina C
Not sure I should admit this - I just leave the skins on or used tinned tomatoes!
The Dogmother
So do I Tina, life's too short.
Popcorn
I do for our adult meals too, but Stefan is too young to tackle skins at the minute, although after my poor skinning effort the other day I did use a tin in the end
Lesley
Lakeland do a special knife for peeling tomatoes - it takes a very thin peeling off. http://www.lakeland.co.uk - type tomato peeler into Find a Product
Popcorn
Thanks Lesely. I notice it has my other demon in the background too. Peeling Kiwi fruit is a disaster area in our house.
PurpleHen
Thanks Lesely. I notice it has my other demon in the background too. Peeling Kiwi fruit is a disaster area in our house. Don't bother with the peeling - just cut in half then scoop out with a spoon
