Chucky Mama

Jack Russell + Hole = 2 hours in the cold + Fire brigade

Recommended Posts

Went for a lovely walk with a friend with a JRT today. About 1 min from the car she popped down a hole and didn't come back up :? We could hear her barking but she wouldn't/couldn't get out. After about 35mins we called the fire brigade hoping that she was stuck rather than just being a madam. It turned out that she was trapped as whatever she had chased in there was stuck and one end and she couldn't reverse up to get out of the other end  Between us we managed to coax her to reverse and then dug her out enough to grab the stump to give her the leverage that she needed to get her out. The firemen were great and very understanding standing out there in the freezing cold. Thankfully she didn't disgrace herself and bite them when they pulled her out although she was very tempted. If only she had a longer tail, it would have been much easier to help her out. My dog Scally watched the whole affair flirting with the firemen (not the only one :whistle: - really wish I had done my hair) looking very smug

oh my word

its scary the holes that pups can fall into (she probably isnt a young dog, but you know what I mean :D )

we have some woods near us that has massive holes with really steep sides in them, if a person fell in, they wouldnt get out

glad you are ok (and the firemen were nice  )

Jack Russells - don't you just love 'em!

What an ordeal, I would have been really panicking :anxious: Bet the firemen get it all the time though.

Her owner was in a dreadful state. I was OK but was worrying about the prospect of still being out there in the dark - oh and the worry that TV cameras may turn up as I was not looking my best (just call me vain)

 goodness!!!

I see locally that a border terrorist has gone missing in rabbit country near here. I wondered when I heard whether they'd called down all the warrens and setts.

Firemen? You get all the luck CM :shameonu:

I walk every morning with a friend and her wee JRT, this morning Myffy was set upon by a staffie (female) which locked onto her throat. I was cleaning up after Ruby at the time and turned round to see what was growling - the Staffie's owner had picked it up and Myff was shrieking in it's jaws. H and I managed to prise its mouth open and rescue the poor mite. Thankfully she wasn't hurt. Have suggested that the staffie is muzzled in public if it tends to do that :evil:

 sorry to hijack your thread CM :?

Sorry, another hijacker here  You got me thinking about the time I fell off my horse and ended up in A&E. I had to put on one of those lovely backless numbers  The doctor who checked me over was gorgeous and the first thing he asked me was if I had any underwear on  Sods law that I had not shaved my legs etc for a while :oops:

I have that t-shirt too, or rather my poor JRT does. He seems to be a magnet for attacks from other dogs. The first was an off the lead, out of control pit bull type when he was just a pup. Fortunately mine were both on the lead so I could hold them both above my head while the mad dog tried to get them. Then a month ago, the husband was just putting him back in the car when two dogs appeared from nowhere, grabbed my boy and tried to rip him in two. They were a lab and a lab cross! Thank goodness it was my husband and not me because he was strong enough to kick them off poor Alf and even more thank goodness their owner was a stupid woman because I think my hubby would have been on an assault charge if it had been a man.

I think that smaller dogs are more of a magnet; JRTs seem to attract it, from experience. A friend keeps two JRTs on his farm - he takes them ratting and rabbitting with his ferrets, they are well trained and certainly wouldn't attack another dog, but often get picked on.

Thankfully, Ruby is tall and very fast, so can out-run most adversaries, if they even start on her anyway.

Here's Myfanwy, she's Ruby's bestest friend. She's a border x JRT

I shall have to think of a non-obvious way of taking some :?

*Puts hands up*

I also have that t-shirt, my terrier cross Henry has got into a nasty s"Ooops, word censored!"e with a Dalmatian that lives down the road. I always keep Henry on the lead (only because he'd investigate any hole in the woods he can find  ), this Dalmatian is always off the lead and is really vicious. When I see it coming now I pick Henry up. The trouble is, the owners live by the park and so just leave him out un-supervised  One time it nearly attacked me too as it was trying to get to Henry, it was snarling with its paws on my shoulders - quite a terrifying experience. Needless to say I reported the incident to the local police and the owners had a warning.

Sorry to hear about that Space Chick. It's an offence to have a dog out unaccompanied and off-leash, so report it to the council dog warden too - they take a dim view of these things. Dalmations have very high energy levels and need lots of exercise (they were originally bred to trot along after carriages for miles on end) so will go loopy if confined.

:( It's so frustrating isn't it Space Chick, it makes walking the dog a stressful experience rather than a pleasure. We do need a photo of Henry though. :D

:D Thank you Seagazer, they are such posers for the camera so I have hundreds of photos of them!

 Sorry Eglutyne, it didn't look huge on my computer, it fitted the screen.

Goodness Chucky Mama I would have been really panicking if it had been my dog although the added extra of the firemen might have calmed me down, do love a man in uniform :D

I'm glad the little JR managed to get out in the end. :D

Maybe I was a bit too calm. I'm thinking now that maybe I should have come over a bit faint. Why is it you always think of these things after the event  There were about 6 or 7 of them. I really do feel that I have missed a trick now
