sandyhas3chucks
She only saw the vet last week due to wheezing sounding worse and a high pitch sneezing(like a kitten) All Morning. Well all morn till we arrived at the vet. Her airway is nice & clear as were her eyes nose etc. But she was wheezing with her beak opening. She actually got a free xray too, which showed very little but a reduced capacity on one lung(as expected) and an enormous egg! She had week of Baytril as he felt that was about all one could do, and have to say by the next morning she was much as always Then this morning, it was truly horrid, all was well until I tried to get her and 2 others out of the kitchen. (not rushed or flappy or anything, when I heard her sneeze and sneeze and rattlly & bubbly sounding. (mini panic inside me!) she was sneezing deeper down than before & so hard with her wobbly leg that she was almost falling over. I scooped her up into my lap and gently supported her it was awful truly horrid Her head and neck went forward, her ltlle beak open and she was gasping for air, at one point her comb started blueing, I thought this is is. Cutie watched from her place on the floor I wondered what she was going to do with out her best mate and protector She gasped for air and I wished I could have a vet next door, I didn't think she would make it there. Her neck and head curled backwards onto her back her nose bubbled little bits a water. Her breathing quietened and got shallower her eyes closed. I thought go quietly on my lap. We stayed like this for a long long time(well so it felt) my bladder screamed and screamed at me. I wanted to sob and just spoke quietly to her. I had to go though and as she was just resting quietly on me I carefully put her in the bed next to Cutie. Up she got stuffed her face and slowly walked about I had to go out and OH had strict instructions to just sit with her, she asked to go out and was pootling about oblivious to the turmoil we had just been through. Horrid horrid really horrid. All in bed now, in a strawless Eglu with deep aubois lased with a few drops of Tea Tree and Eucalyptus (a few hours previously) no wheezing no nothing. Plum
Heck she put you through it. Wonder what was obstructing her, do you think it was just mucous or what? Hugs for you, and really glad she's ok.
dancing cloud
Chickens indeed! I've had my little Moon sat on my knee this morning as I think she has gape-worm again and a flubenvet'd grape was needed, and now I've got Clover in the kitchen with an impacted crop and not co-operating with the whole olive oil approach. Cats are sulking due to lack of attention and I'm covered in hen-sick and poo and I still love them all to bits and back! So glad your little one is better and here's hoping she doesn't do it again
sandyhas3chucks
thanks, she is still "as nomal" the vet thinks that as she has air sac damage there may have been a builkd up of fluid. And basically she was experiencing drowning Isn't that awful. And IF I lived next door to a Vet I would have had her pts and IF I had and could have I would have dispatched her And here she is 2 days later pootling about just the same! Sorry you aew notr having a good time either DC. Apparently you can see gape with a torch? I have fingers crossed for a speedy result from Retfords for my old poorly girl. Good Luck x
skye
Really sorry to hear about your experience Sandy. How awful for you and your girl. Hopefully she has got whatever it was out of her system now. skye x
Valkyrie
I am so sorry - I read that story and felt awful - then the parting shot! Chickens! I wonder if she had eaten something she was allergic to - or sniffed at? I know my eyes and nose do that on the odd occasion when something is in the air that I react to. Anyway, glad it had a happy ending. Gape worm spotting with a torch - eeewwww! Sounds like a moray eel!
