Great idea for cold chickens!

Recommended Posts

Ive just had the most amazing idea. looking on this forum ive seen a few complaints about wet and cold chickens, and my chickens get cold and wet too. plus its bound to snow this year which is just going to give our poor chickens a cold. So because on the website lots of chicken items are sold, why not sell chicken clothing?? it would be a great idea!! id buy it for sure, anythin to keep my chickens happy and warm. i know they already have feathers but still how would you like being out all day with just 1 jumper on? And also maybe the site should sell treats for chickens, like toys and some dried food. im sure everyone would love to buy stuff for their chickens at christmas. Well i just hope many people agree with me. Just reply to this message and hopefully omlet will hear us and get the new idea into the online shop. Thanks!

Lol i know, its been raining cats and dogs recently. I saw a website selling clothes for chickens but they stopped selling them in 2006 so im a bit annoyed about that. :( Please omlet, chickens dont deserve to be cold. My friend had a pet rabbit and went out one morning about a week ago to find her rabbit frozen still from the cold. So maybe omlet could seel rabbit clothes and guinea pig clothes as well as chickens. I think clothes for bees is taking it a bit too far though.

Ye lol. id love to do that. and actually ive never heard of the chicken nappy what is it? If omlet dont start selling chicken clothes ill probs make em for my girls. I just couldn't bear to wake up and find them frozen. The eglu may be the worlds best chicken coop but its not a indestructable

are you going to offer a laundry service for them :vom::lol:

Haha possible xD. Well the chicken clothes should be easy to clean, literally during the day whilst the chickens are in the sun, just bung their clothes in the waching machine and when evening comes, put them back on. They have clothes for cats and dogs, why not chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs? And you never know, if miracles happen then clothes for bees ( only joking :P)

I love those clothes, but i think i can top it - how awesome would you find it - imagine this - its a coldish day and your having your friends over - you get out teh patio heater to eat outside - you are eating your casual platter when suddenly you see these join you from the distance http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/200708/r167145_622126.jpg that would make my day!

I'm sorry, those clothes are horrific!

I'd much sooner provide my chooks with quality housing, bedding / nesting material & warm chicken porridge if they are cold. Some corn, oats / wheat a bit before bedtime will give them the energy stores they need to keep warm. In the daytime, make sure they can always shelter in their house from the elements.

I don't fancy chickens in spandex & plastic body suits!

Ok ive read some of the comments and i agree the photos i posted of chickens wearing clothes are pretty bad but that was just an example. I wouldn't let my girls wear them if their unforcomfortable but surly just a knitted jumper would be okay? I think my idea is wearing down now seeing as some people wouldn't want them but i still think theyre great and no-one can read a chicken's mind to see whether they are cold or not.

 I always thought the picture was a cartoon

Trouble is Mattaz the fabric or wool can loop and then form a ligature or cause a trip and break a limb :( It's better to provide shelter and give good food so they can build their own defences and good covering of feathers. :D

I think you and Chris were only have a bit of fun imagining these outfits :D

Aw lol ;[ id love to have seen my chickens in clothes but if its going to hurt them, forget it. maybe the idea of chicken socks will catch on. Oh well. Ok wel ill just make sure theres plenty of shredded paper in the eglu every night. im just getting worried about the winter because i got my first chickens in spring this year so ive never had chickens during a winter. Haha just let the chickens out and pheobe had a massive lump of poo on her. cleaned most of it off but still remains on her.

It was only a laugh - think of the cleaning - lol, although i still must say the duck outfits look quite fetching still and if it wasn;t hurting them i would definitely get some - at least put on them when friends come over but obviously before anyone starts making low toned comments i know they are not a toy and i hav lways taken the chickens/ducks welfare in mind
