The Good Life - part3

Lots of love to Lauren. I guess you'll have to go back and get her replastered. I loved the 'you know how you always tell us . . .' bit!

It's been a bad day here too, so maybe there is something going on everywhere? I hope tomorrow is better for everyone!

By the time she went home, Lauren had pushed the plaster back on and it looked OK - I'm assuming she didn't tell her Mum much as I didn't receive a phone call. I was too apprehensive to phone  - but I will have to phone my daughter today as she has something called Brachalgia, a form of RSI, and her hands are swollen and painful - she might need me.

.....perhaps that's why she hasn't phoned to ask what's been going on! :?

Better day for everyone today then? 8)

 Poor Lauren ...... still admire her for being dragged through the mud no matter what  .

Just out of curio ... do you have Campbell ducks Lesley :?: . The adopted flock farmer would LOVE ducks, and says they are really good egg layers, just he's not too sure about the demand for duck eggs in the area.

Hope you have a calmer weekend :P

Lesley, don't know how I missed this. Poor Lauren. I do hope she mends quickly.

My dad, as a child, tied his dog, Lux, to his braces, so he had his hands free when walking him. Trouble is, Lux was a big dog and a fighter. He saw a cat across the street and promptly set off after it, dragging my Dad along behind him..... My Dad still has the scars. It has us all in fits of laughter every time he tells the story... especially at the bit when he rolls up his trouser legs to show us......:lol:

Lauren will dine out on this story when she is older.

Well - I did get told off this morning :? - and Lauren had another trip back to A&E at Warwick to have her arm replastered

She is not too happy - no swimming, no cello, no bike riding :? - they are going to be on holiday for 2 weeks and she won't be able to go in the pool or the sea :(

Sarah Jo - yes, we have White Campbells. Mindy lays an egg a day and I have buyers lining up for them :D

It's been all go this week.........

We had a busy weekend of viewings at the house - we are hopeful that something will come of them. We have received one offer which we have turned down at the moment and another couple who are very interested.

My son has made over half of the raised beds for the kitchen garden - and he has shifted about 12 tons of the topsoil so far. I've planted a whole bed of onions and one of broad beans. All the fruit at the house was getting to the stage to be replaced so we decided to start again. We ordered the plants and I've planted them all.......... 48 strawberries, 36 raspberries, 1 blackcurrant, 1 white currant, 1 redcurrant , 3 gooseberry bushes and 2 cranberry plants. I also repotted the blueberries which need acidic soil and moved them to the fruit cage area. The fruit cage hasn't been re-erected yet.

Matthew has been here and put up a row of fencing ready for the hops and grapevines. Today he will fence off the kitchen garden and then will fence the next pig paddock ready for new weaners in April.

Last night we attended the first of 6 evenings on Beekeeping :D We are lucky to live near to the British Bee Keeping Association. They are running a 6 week course for just £35 - 4 classroom based and 2 practical. It was all a bit last minute as we didn't hear until Wednesday evening that we could go - the group is 35 people.

Those of you who know me know that i have problems meeting people I don't know etc.... ( ) I had to force myself to walk through the doors, had a quick look around, spotted someone I thought looked friendly and sat down next to her.

It turns out that she has an allotment, keeps chickens and wears Crocs  - how lucky was that?! (I'm starting to sound like Dan here  )

You might think that most of the people there would be similar - but they weren't. There were some very pompous types and some quiet, town types and a lot of older people. I think I managed to pick on the one person I would actually choose to talk to

The course looks very good and we should learn all we need to know. Carl really wanted to start with bees last year - we really want bees, NOW!!!!

 Lesley, what a LOT of progress in one week! It must give you a real boost when things move on another stage and you get nearer to your vision. :D

Do you know yet when you will start keeping bees?

Yes Clare  - it's a bit nippy here today!

I'd forgotten about that calendar - I'm glad I passed it on to you - he keeps sticking his head through the kitchen door to ask questions. I'm so glad his naked photo isn't stuck to my kitchen wall

It has been a bit busy. I usually only see my Mum about twice a year, once or twice they come to the Midlands and once, we go over to Anglesey. At the moment, she is staying with my sister who now lives nearby but has been in Grand Cayman for 4 years.

We met for lunch on Wednesday when they first arrived and then they all came back here. They are coming over again this afternoon - and I'm trying to keep the floors clean and make cake and biscuits  I don't know why I'm trying to keep the floors clean - my sister is bringing her 2 children this afternoon and Lauren and Jake will come after school as well :wink:

My son posed for a charity calendar for De Montfort University...something to do with the Hockey team I think....anyway him and his pals were "April" so they wore shower caps and (mercifully!) had strategically placed umbrellas...oh and one of them wore a fools cap. Very funny and rather clever I thought.

You should have seen some of the girls though! They looked like eastern bloc olympic atheletes from the '70's.
