Slightly hacked off....

Recommended Posts

Well, sparky turned up after a detour to drop daughter off at Brownies. It's going to be a day's work (which I expected) and he can do it next Monday :? not as early as I'd have liked, but he and my gas man are now booked to come in on Monday.... bang goes my idea of running the cooker to cure it, then doing some practice cooking at the weekend

I am doing some work on the kitchen anyhow, so I don't mind if they pop it in ducts for the time being, it will be channelled in at a later date. I needed to get the ring main on the ground floor replaced as it's on a light load at the moment and I keep tripping it off

Still, that's another story.

Thanks for your kind wishes, I will take a picture of said cooker when it is installed :D

It is a real pain. Most cookers now need 45A circuitry, but most domestic wiring is 30A. Fortunately when we had our extension built in 2003, we had 45A wiring put in even though we didn't need it at the time. We actually had a three-phase supply at the same time to provide power for the welding that he does as part of our business.

That said, the wiring supplied with the cooker was only 30A rated. Techinically if you had everything running, it would draw more than 30A, but in reality you never would run everything. They are naughty supplying the incorrect wire with the cooker, and I am fortunate that DH noticed it when he was installing it (DH used to design, program and install industrial robotic systems so is more than capable of wiring in a cooker!). I suspect most electricians would just have wired the cooker in with the wire supplied and said nothing!

Hope you get your cooker in and have at least a little time to practice before Christmas, Claret!

Glad you are getting it sorted Claret! We had the same dilemma - I wanted a new cooker with a double electric oven and our electricity supply was not suitable. I was told I could have the double ovens but they would have to be gas  There is no way I will ever get the wiring updated. Yes you've guessed it - I'm married to an electrician :evil::evil::roll:

 what are they like Snowy?!

I am hoping that it will be sorted next week, or I'll likely be cooking c'mas lunch in the Remoska!

At least the wiring will sort the ground floor ring main problem and I will be able to get more sockets in the kitchen in the future - Victorian kitchens didn't allow for much in the way of power - I only have one single and one double socket, mind you, I don't use many gadgets really.
