Slightly hacked off....

Recommended Posts

... my old cooker packed up a week ago and I ordered a new one (I had been saving up as I expected the old one to go soon) the new one was sat in my dining room and the gas man came this morning to fit it. Turned out that the mains electric supply for the old one isn't enough to power the new cooker, so I have to get my sparky out to rewire it all for me :(

I was sooo looking forwrad to going home tomight, being able to play on the new one and having space to swing a hamster in my dining room again

Sparky is coming out to look at it tonight, so I hope that he'll be able to do it soon and the cooker can be fitted before Christmas. Don't know what I will do if it's not; I have 10 people for c'mas day

It's so annoying when that happens  I had the same problem with my new cooker...it didn't even occur to me that the supply for the old cooker wouldn't be good enough for the new cooker.

Ended up being a logistical nightmare as the fuse box is in the garage and there was no way for a new supply to be run through the house to the kitchen...so I now have a very nice tube of black trunking running down the length of the house on the outside wall, with the mother of all electric supplies inside it :roll:

I hope you get your cooker sorted soon :D

I hope you get it sorted before Christmas - with time to get use to it first. I did Christmas dinner on Sunday (mum is away for Christmas) and was only the 2nd time I had done a roast in my new oven - all was OK, but it takes some getting use to.

I can think of only one thing for it.... you'll have to come to me for Christmas dinner! :D:lol:

Sounds like a fab idea Lovey - can you fit 10 of us in?

I was hoping for some practice cooking first too Tracy - it'll take some getting used to a 'proper' oven after the 20 year old, cranky gas one. It took nearly all day to cook christmas lunch last year! Darned great thing is taking up most of the room in my dining room too!

My sister recently moved house new cooker delivered and it was damaged still no sign of a replacement..! Similar thing happened to me though John Lewis we paid extra to have the cooker connected and when they came out they said it didnt meet corgi standards for gas(pipe wasnt long enough despite the previous owner and ourselves managing for about 30 years with it)! So it cost me another £50 to get it connected and it was something so trivial when the chap came out. The original delivery installer would have got paid for connection..nice work if you can get it!

Hope it turns up..we are awaiting delivery for the 2nd time of a new TV (the first had a cracked screen..just found out it is coming this wednesday)

Am sure your sparky will get it all up and running quickly

The sparky is round this evening to have a look, so hopefully he can do it soon and then Charles can come back to install it.

Rosie just called when she got home from school, she's disappointed too as she wanted to cook on it tomorrow night.

I hope it'll be done in time, if not then I guess we can all decamp down to my folks for the day, it's an hour and a half drive though, we'd need to collect Phil's folks on the way and my mother hates cooking so much that it shows in the results. :?

I had the same issue :(

Thankfully, my kitchen fitter (who was also an electrician) noticed before my new cooker was ordered. It would have cost me more to have the electrical work done than the cooker would have cost, so I went for a full gas cooker as opposed to a dual fuel.

Hope it won't be that problematic for you Claret
