Christmas number 1

Recommended Posts

Not sure if anyone else has posted about this, but is any one else getting a bit fed up of hearing about the drama between x-factor winner Joe and Rage against the machine for xmas number 1....

i know there’s a lot of people hacked off that x-factor get it every year ,but I’d rather he'd get it than an American band get our Christmas spot, and to be honest it's not even a very good song. Joe’s is much better.. So was George Michaels as well who i adore. :D

i just feel a little sorry for poor Joe, its not his fault, i voted week after week for him to win, i know not everyone will agree with me, and yes i know that Simon cowell earns millions but last year he did the song for our guys injured out in Iraq and this year for great Ormond street hospital so there are some good things that come out of x-factor. Anyway sat evenings would be pretty dull in winter without it.

sorry for ramblings but if there’s anyone else out there who thinks Joe is fab like me please download his single for 29p from the sun website or play.com 65p and lets get him to number 1.. :D

p.s i know some people will disagree but i love x-factor and i haven't got a problem with it being number 1 each year, the winner deserves it, as like other years if they flop as least they have that 1 single.:lol:

Merry christmas everyone :D

I have found the whole thing to be a bit silly really. The whole point about Number One is that is the most popular music. I don't particularly like the fact that X-Factor has been dominating Christmas but it is the way that these things work (and much as you may hate him, Cowell is a VERY clever man to get us all spending money to go in his pocket!)

I understand that the Cowell also is connected with RATM so will be quids in whichever single gets there.

Personally, I would rather have something from The Heroes as it would be far more appropriate than KITNO. I am not prudish with music - I love Green Day and their lyrics are hardly squeaky clean but Christmas in mainly about children and so KITNO is hardly appropriate. As it is just between the two of them, I would prefer Joe to be there.

Did anyone hear them on 5 Live yesterday morning? I found it quite funny but very predictable that they would swear even though they had promised not to!

I agree, the RATM song is not a very good song, so much as I dislike manufactured pop, I also dislike KITNO. Christmas is about love and peace, and this is an angry song "sung" in an aggressive manner with a lot of swearing by an angry manner. I like rock, I don't like this song, or actually this band (I also like Green Day!). It doesn't say anything about Christmas to me.

I feel very sorry for Joe who has an excellent singing voice, but has been given a mediocre song. He is only a young lad, and I hope he has a future as I would like to see what he can do. If he produces a pleasant song, well sung, that people want to buy, I don't care if he came from X-Factor or not.

I probably won't be buying either!

I hope RATM get the Christmas number 1. I'm a huge fan and it's been great that it's been given some mainstream airplay.

The band are giving their profits to the charity Shelter from the sales of this Christmas number 1 "battle".

It is a great way for those who are sick of monotonous drivel to show their annoyance to the music industry. Whatever happened to variety in the charts?

I think it would only be bettered by her Majesty blasting out a corus of " One won't do what you tell me" during her Christmas speach.!!

I too would rather, if its just the choice of these two, have RATM at number one. I love KITNO - we even had it at our wedding reception with all us friends moshing away too it :D I don't think the adults were that impressed  Joe was good as far as an X Factor contestant goes, but I really don't like his single.

However, if Tim Minchin was in the running, I'd rather he was No 1 :D

Sorry OP, I also hope Rage Against the Machine get a higher chart position than Joe. We do need a variety of music types in the charts but it seems today's tweenagers buy all this manufactured pap. Bring back Top of the Pops and 7" singles, that's what I say!

What is KINTO?

Sorry being a bit dense!

It's K I T N O, an acronym of the song title.

Tim MInchin for number one,I say :dance::clap::dance::dance:

I heard his christmas song on Radio 2 with Jonathan Ross, it was so lovely. I'd probably go for that one.

I haven't heard the anti-x-factor one so I can't say anything against it but I have to say that Joe's song to me is instantly forgettable (sp?). I couldn't even tell you how it goes and I've heard it a few times. :?

This is exactly what has been missing for the last few years. It doesn't really matter what song is the Christmas No.1, but I really enjoy the discussions and the waiting to see. The internet campaign has brought a bit of life back into the issue. If people can endlessly discuss who will win strictlycomexfactorgetthezombifiedcelebrityoutofthejungle, then why not the Xmas No.1.:evil:

It is beautiful,isn't it?

Just wish it got more air time

I agree. I love Tim Minchin and I'm fed up of the x factor controlling the Christmas charts!

At the end of the day, they are both managed by the same company  Only the company has won.

Somewhat defeated the object in my book knowing this  personally I felt that Joe was a thoroughly nice kid who had done very well & has been very grown up about the whole No1 situation.........couldn't understand the choice of "alternative" though.......heard it on Top 40 in the car this evening & was instantly unimpressed...........................and for the record I like Joe's single, very singable in my house :anxious:

I was very cynical about the whole thing: though the Xfactor song isn't number one, it will almost inevitably have had more sales as a result of all the publicity. So the prestige of christmas number one is lacking, but their pockets won't be any emptier.

Having said all that, myteenaged son was very enthusiastic about supporting RATM, and it was nice to see him get worked up about something!

I'd much rather listen to RATM than the X-factor, but that's a personal taste thing more than a political statement.
