The jars would look great with a nice Christmas scented candle in them, lovely! i especially love your auntie's jar! I did a storage jar in a sort of similar design a couple of months ago. The colours look lovely with light shining through them.

Guest
lovely! Is it difficult to do?
PurpleTree
I'm getting the hang of it, I think! The hardest bit is being patient and waiting for the bits to dry, and I only really get the evenings to do it. Also thinking up what to paint on the pieces in the first place. Guest
how indelible are they? Would they stand up to the heat of a candle? Can you wash them gently? Where do you get your ideas from?

PurpleTree
I use solvent based paints now, when I first started I used cheaper water based paints. i haven't tried washing them, I sold them at our Church Christmas Fair, and if anyone asked I said it was probably best to wipe them down with a damp cloth rather than risk immersing them in water. I think the solvent based paints are fine with tea lights, most of the things I painted for the fair were tea light holders. When I started I bought a lovely book about glass painting http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0715316117/ref=ox_ya_oh_product and there was lots of design ideas in there, she also did painted jam jars for tea lights. Mostly they're just doodles I've come up with, simple patterns seem to work well, and I like flowers. Don't know if you've seen it, but on my blog are photos of nearly everything I've done http://welshpurpletree.wordpress.com/glass-painting/
Guest
have you ever done any chicken ones?
PurpleTree
No, I don't seem to be able to get the hang of drawing chickens, they always seem a bit odd. I shall have to keep trying, maybe I'll get the hang of it in time for Easter.
Valkyrie
How about drawing one on paper, cut around it and use a bit of cellotape on the back to roughly stick it onto the glass, or you can get the template spray which might be easier. Just as a rough guideline really. You could use tracing paper if the drawing keeps misbehaving.
