Nicola O
My beautiful corgi X lab, Dilys, was put to sleep yesterday morning She had a series of five fits over Wednesday night, totally out of the blue, and they were more debilitationg than I realised at the time. I sat up with her all night keeping her comfortable, and by the time I rushed her to the vets first thing in the morning she was conscious but 'vacant' (if you know what I mean', the vet said the fits had left her blind and had damaged her heart. If she had been a younger dog It may have been possible to do something for her, but she was sixteen yeard old so I felt we should just say goodbye there and then. It was the most horrible experience of my life but I know it was the right thing to do for her........ we will all miss her desperately. . Nicola. Cate in NZ
Nicola, I'm so sorry You've done the right thing for poor Dilys, but you must be feeling heartbroken right now. Remember she had a great life with you, and now she's not going to be suffering a debilitating illness. Big hugs

chelsea
So sorry nicola. Its the worst thing when a pet passes away, My dog is like my child so I understand completely that you are devastated. Just try to console yourself that she had a wonderful life and she lived to a good age and passed peacefully. lots of hugs
Chicken Licken
sixteen is a great age - and much better to go after a short illness than a protracted painful fading away. Big hugs for you. I am dreading the time when rosie reaches that stage of life
Nicola O
Thanks everyone for their kind words. I got through the day at work simply telling everyone to not mention Dilys as even thinking about her sets me off again, let alone talking about her. When I got home I found a card through the door from the vets reminding me of her worming that is now due, they must have posted it the day before this happened. To top it all my sister has just e-mailed to say her favourite cat died at the begining of the week . I can't see the keyboard very well for all the tears so I'll sign off now. Thanks again for kind words and hugs. You're all a great bunch. Nicola.
Budgies
So sad to hear this, Nicola. As others have said, hopefully in time you can take comfort from the fact that Dilys had such a lovely life with you. You did the kindest thing by not protracting her suffering. Hugs for you Sue x

pepe
I'm so sorry Nicola, Its so sad when you lose a pet, I was 15 when we had to have our family dog put down, he was 17 so he had a good long life. I still think of him today, that was 30 years ago you did the right thing, but it hurts I know.
harveypup
So very sorry to hear about your loss. Have a read of the Rainbow Bridge in the memorial section - You will cry your heart out but it really helped me tho to think about it that way. Take care x x
