Boybeck
Do you think this walk in run and eglu is big enough to add a light sussex bantam and a silkie to my two existing ISA Browns? I'm planning to get them in the spring and will obviously follow the careful introduction procedure.
feemcg
Easily!.....at the start I had 5 big girls sleeping comfortably in an eglu, with a walk -in-run.
Lewis
Definately Some people have 5 hybrids in an eglu and the WIR looks plenty big enough for a couple more
Boybeck
I was looking at getting a light sussex bantam, so they don't get overcrowded in there. Perhaps I should get a large light sussex instead? I presume the benefit will be bigger eggs.
Lewis
Up to you, there probably wouldn't be too much of a difference in the eglu ... depends what you can get from the breeder too
sparkysmum
Definately btw, what a lovely WIR
Boybeck
Aww thank you. My own handy work. Managed to finish it after lots of cursing hehe
Space Chick
I'd say yes too, although you will need to think about ways of temporarily dividing the run for introductions
Egluntyne
Definitely. You have a lovely set up there.
beulah59
Looks great. Do they ever free range? Even if not, that looks plenty of space.
Carol U
Definitely big enough. I have six in a similar set up, although they do freerange for several hours a day. I used to have a wooden house in there too, but "Ooops, word censored!"ody used it so I took it out to give them more room. They seem to prefer sleeping all cuddled up together. I have a couple more tree branches in my WIR and the three age groups each perch at different heights!
Falkor
Lovely set up! I think there is definetely room! And a Lt sussex batam is on MY list so Just remember that the silkies can be shy and stooopid so take the intros nice and slow
Minnie&Moose
Looks like lots of room there. We currently have 5 hybrids who insist on all sleeping together in one eglu - and one of them is a very chunky 'Light Sussex' style hybrid! chick wiggle
Absolutely plenty of room for more Your set up is lovely, and loving the ikea table, which i got after you gave us the heads up so many thanks for that
Boybeck
In answer to your question, yes the girls do get to free range too, sometimes all day if I home. Honestly, they're so spoilt! LOL. Roll on spring time for some new additions One little tweak I'm going to make with the run is the plastic sheeting to keep the aubiose in. It's starting to come away and I was thinking of replacing it with clear perspex. Will have to have to do some research and find out who sells it. The one pain with aubiose is that it gets stuck to the bottom of your shoe and then gets everywhere, I even find it indoors!!!
Lewis
B&Q sell sheets of clear perspex - got some for the tortoises vivarium I didn't think about it getting stuck on feet - I always get them out/put them away with no shoes on so would get aubiose all over my socks! I've been using the pump type shoes that I wear in the WIR to drive the car - the footwell has got lots of aubiose in it. Luckily the OH hasn't noticed yet, I don't think he's going to be too impressed
Plum
I've got it in the bathroom I'm going to get a metal boot s"Ooops, word censored!"er for outside the run
Falkor
I've got it in the bathroom I'm going to get a metal boot s"Ooops, word censored!"er for outside the run Here we have it in bathroom, lounge, kitchen and the otherday even in the bed!!!!! However I am blaming the cats for this as they like to go in the WIR when the big girls are out in the garden. The cats scarper as soon the one of the chooks turns back towards the run Silly question but how do you cut perspex?

AUBIOSE ROCKS!!! I get my Aubiose with my Garvo feed which I have to go to the other side of Milky Beans for. I can get you some with my next order if you want but that won`t be for another couple of weeks. OR the feed place at Great Staughton sells it....at least they did last summer, i haven't been over there in a while. Frontier on the A1 towards Sandy sell it too. I have a bale of Hemcore at the moment - it was a panic purchase when all the snow was melting and I agree if it FURRY! All my bantams are getting really bad mud balls cos of it> BTW do you know how to cut perspex?
kevtheplumber
that would be good if you could pick me some up, went to staughton last time they had none, forgot about sandy. Got some pellets at great paxton earlier, we should sort it out so we can pick it all up in one. As for perspex what do you want? got all the tools you will ever need
