AmberSky
I have 10 girls and wondered how much and how best to administer Flubenvet, i was using vermex but i have lost 2 birds now so i am trying Flubenvet to see if it is worms that is the problem, i read that it is 6g per 4kg but i feed layers pellets in a feeder and i just top it up daily so how do i know how much fed to put in daily, as it is a 7 day course? Also how long will a 60g tub last me, the vermex liquid never seems to last as long as it states on the bottle!
Plum
I was thinking of suggesting that on your other thread You just mix up 3g of Flubenvet with 2Kg of the pellets . You can mix some cod liver oil in first if you want to help it stick. Then put the pellets out daily as usual and keep rest in a container. When that lot has gone mix another lot and chuck what's not been used after 7 days. The other thing is try and cut out treats when worming. Egluntyne
There are 2 strengths of Flubenvet available, with differing methods of administration. You need to check if it is the 2.5% or the 1%. If it is the 2.5%, then what you say above is correct. If it is 1%, then a 6g scoopful medicates 2kg of feed.
AmberSky
Thanks plum, thats a great idea and egluntyne i will check the concentration it is the 1% so 6g is correct i think. How often do i need to worm them? i previously used vermex but im not confident it works even before i saw the comments on this forumn and vermex is used monthly which seems excessive if its a effective wormer. Christian
How often do i need to worm them? I worm mine every 4-5 months with Flubenvet. Have just mixed up the dose and will start tomorrow
Redwing
I worm my lot every three months Your pot should be enough to dose 40kg of feed I think so should last a good while As Plum says mix up 2kg (3g Flubenvet) and feed it as normal ad lib, when thats gone mix up some more - you could mix the 4kg up straight off but if they dont eat it all its a waste
Suzeb
The way I did it was to weigh out 1kg which happened to be a medium size bowl, full of pellets, tip into sanwich bag, add half a scoop of flubenvet and mix (I am using the 60g tub of flubenvet). Was really easy as not mixing into huge tub of pellets, and then in bags ready for each day. Was much easier than I expected . Suze
AmberSky
Thanks all good tips, i use a plastic scoop to put the pellets into the feeder and it so happens that a full scoop=500g of pellets, i have not received the flubenvet yet but i think for my 10 girls 4kg and one scoop of flubenet should do them about a week. Thank you every one for the helpful tips.
Ginfiend
How to do you administer if one of the chickens isn't eating? I've ordered some Flubenvet, but not sure how to get it into the poorly girl...
AmberSky
If your girl is not eating as i discovered recently (too late) then i would in the first instance give her nutri drops, i got some too late for my girls but it is supposed to perk hens up in 10 to 30 mins then put the flubenvet into the dry food or i heard you can put a little onto a grape from the tip of a knife. in future when i see one of my girls not so well or moulting im getting some nutri drops down them straight away, oh by the way its administered in a pipette straight down the throat. Ginfiend
Thanks for that - that's good to know!
The Dogmother
I once dosed with Flubenvet by mixing it into a wet paste with water and then syringing it in the chook's beak. It's not the recommended route and the dosing was a bit hit and miss, but she got treated i the end.
fluffyknickers
Woud she eat something like half a grape with some on? I know not the correct way to administer but if she is poorly then worth a go. Michelle
Ginfiend
My Flubenvet has just arrived - if you use cod liver oil to mix it together - does it need to be a special type of cod liver oil? Or is it any old chemist stuff? Just checking after the apple cider vinegar fiasco...
The Dogmother
The only cod liver oil I have is the equine one from NAF - probably far cheaper than from a chemist as it comes in a big container, I wouldn't take it myself though! laurmurf
If a chook isn't eating and you need to dose for worms then I have used Panacur suspension for Small Animals, even though it is not licensed for chooks. I weigh the chook and syringe it down. It's always better to use the correct wormer for the beast, but if you can't get Flubenvet into them via food, at least you are getting something into her. Ginfiend
My poorly chicken (Delilah) had Panacur syringed at the vets - no chance of getting anything in her any other way... She's still not eating. I was going to use Flubenvet on my other chicken (Doris), who is fine and happily eating anything in sight. I've got pelleted food, so I was thinking I might need the oil to get it to mix properly... If I've only got one chicken needing the Flubenvet - could I get away with mixing up 3g to 1kg of food? I don't think she'll get through the full 2kg on her own! Seems a waste otherwise.
Christian
Chickens eat approximately 100-125g of food a day, so I would just mix enough for the week.
BarbaraJ
How does everyone weigh out 3-6g my scales dont do small measurements?
Suzeb
The flubenvet that I get comes with a scoop which meaures the right amount. Makes it quite easy to do. Suze
Redwing
You can use the chemist stuff but as Claret says its far cheaper from a horsey shop
AmberSky
From a horsie shop! is it the same brand and packageing? i could do with some cheaper flubenvet as i just worked out i need at least 6kg of food a week for my 12 girls so thats at least 3x6g of flubenvet. Lewis
How does everyone weigh out 3-6g my scales dont do small measurements? You can buy small medication scale/scoop kits, but I can't find any online - you might have to see if you can get some more precise scales from somewhere. From a horsie shop! is it the same brand and packageing? i could do with some cheaper flubenvet as i just worked out i need at least 6kg of food a week for my 12 girls so thats at least 3x6g of flubenvet. I think Tasha means cod liver oil
Redwing
Yes I did mean the cod liver oil Re the Flubenvet try to get the 240g pack next time, not only is it a bigger pack the strngth is higher so you need less I have this which has a set of diddy scales in, its a dead useful bit of kit http://www.regencypoultry.com/heathcare/dosing%20kit/poultry_dosing_kit.htm
