How do you clean out the eglu run without wriggling in...

Recommended Posts

on your tummy???

The door is soo tiny, I can't work out how to do it without taking the whole run off, which isn't practical.

I've got the run set up permanently on an old flowerbed, so underneath is soil, then some sand, then easibed on the top (we've got corrugated plastic over the run to keep it mainly dry).

I tried raking it today, but couldn't get in properly, and the poo is all mixed in with the easibed so I can't pick it out individually.

We've only had chooks since Saturday, so it's not too bad yet, but I was hoping that I could get a bit of the poo out every now and again, rather than having to do a mass clear out.

What method do you use?

And would Aubiose, or some other type of bedding be better?

I have a permanent run with an extension and I just move the whole thing every now and then for a BIG clean out !

I have had it for almost two weeks on aubiose [ previously on bark chips ] and it is still looking and smelling lovely

I dont even attempt to poo pick in there.

We have rabbits in our eglu/run and as such they don't need to have a base to 'graze' on (the buns roam free in the garden during daylight hours) so we have hardboard down, cut to fit in the run. On a daily basis, I use a very broad broom and sweep forward everything that I can. Then on a weekly basis, we lift up the run and move it slightly to one side, while the other person does the cleaning.
