not as bad as birdflu though  (shouldnt joke should I)

Mr A Yobb of Peckham says, "Oi! When my bird gets flu I still expect her to make my dinner and do the washing up an' that. I don't want her getting ideas like that bird in Suffolk and setting up exclusion zones an' that. Know wha' I mean."

That would put the wind up any complaining neighbours worried they'll catch bird flu from your chickens.....go around to their house with full-on flu symptoms, cough and splutter a bit and tell them you don't know what all the fuss is about....you've been cuddling your chickens and feel just fine!!

Hope you feel better soon Martin.

Not long to go till Half Term - my two are clinging desparately to that thought :D:D Although my son is nearly always ill during the hols and never ever during term time (not missed a day of senior school since he started and he's now in Year 10 :shock: ) he says it's not fair. :(:(

I do hope your feeling better soon Martin. We have a very serious case of Man Flu going round the males in this house. Funny though the variety I caught must have been a different one because I was still able to make meals, wash clothes, tidy up etc. Middle son Jonathan is reduced to only being able to spend hours on the computer, poor soul.

Seriously he is running a temp of about 103 so I guess he does feel rough

My boys hate having a nurse for a mother - they reckon they don't get enough sympathy  I tell them sympathy is for those who are REALLY ill!

My children never got any sympathy either - and I'm not a nurse.

I used to tell them to see how they felt by lunchtime and if they still felt poorly, then I'd fetch them home. They very rarely came home.

They also rarely complained of feeling ill as they became older, and so when they did, I knew that they were ill

Hope you feel better today Martin?

I'm the same too! My children know if they're too ill to go to school, then they have to stay in bed. So no TV, computer, games or anything. Missing secondary school means missing valuable teaching, so mine don't stay away unless they feel absolutely awful. They don't like trying to catch up afterwards.

My children knew they were wasting their time trying to con me.

If they could stand, give cheek, eat their breakfast, then they went to school.

The only exceptions were:

1. Raging temperature.

2. Diarrhoea or vomiting.

3. Conjunctivitis.

4. My instinct telling me something was amiss.

I always took them to school late in the day if the perked up as soon as they thought they had conned me. The all tried it once only.

Non essential absences are so disruptive both to the child's education, and to the teacher who has a difficult enough time as it is without having to go over things again and again unnecessarily.

Can I put the other side to you all? As a teacher, I get so fed up with parents sending their children to school when they know they are coming down with something! I could not possibly begin to list the number of viruses and other disgusting things I have caught off children whose parents have sent them to school over the years. It is so selfish of them: The poor child sits in a hot room, with 30 or so others, incubating and spreading their germs around and feeling terrible. Normally they get sent to school because there is "Ooops, word censored!"ody at home to look after them. Poor little mites. They should be at home tucked up in bed.

This week we have sent home 12 children who have got impetigo. 5 of these parents have complained as it "just looks like a cold sore". Yeah, right, ouzing pus? :vom: This thing spreads like wildfire. We have had to go round disinfecting every door handle, desk and chair in the whole school.

Ill children, or children who look like they might be coming down with something should be kept at home. Oh, and by the way, if they have diahorreah or vomiting, they should NOT return to school until they have had 48 clear hours.

Thank you.

I feel better now.
