Sheet says it works on a chemical breakdown and is proven. Do not vary or substitute any of the above food. Salt and pepper to be used and no other seasoning. Where no quantity is given there are no restrictions other than common sense. The diet is used for 3 days at a time. In the 3 days you will lose 10lb. After 3 days of dieting you can eat normally, but remember not to overdo it. You can repeat it only after a week.

Some folks I work with have done it and swear they have lost the 10lb. :P I think I could do it just to get the ice cream each day

Sorry guys, this is guaranteed to fail. It is absolute and complete nonsense and has basis only in pseudoscience, not in real science. It is not a balanced diet in any shape or form. There is a huge amount of evidence showing that this type of diet will lead to you gaining weight. Why?

Well, you may lose 10lb but almost all of this will be muscle, and you will lose virtually no fat. The moment you start to eat normally, you will put weight on, and you will put it on quicker, because your metabolic rate will be lower due to the muscle loss.

You have to make a decision - do you lose weight by adopting a healthy lifestyle and normal healthy diet that you will follow for the rest of your life, or do you want to lose a lot of weight for a short period of time at the expense of ultimately putting more on? So, do you want to be heavier in a year's time? Then follow this diet!

The only way to keep weight off is to adopt healthy eating patterns for life, together with appropriate levels of activity, and the only way to do this is by making gradual, stepwise changes to your diet. You put weight on over a period of years, why do you think it is natural to lose it over a period of weeks? It isn't, so don't try to!

Any diet promising more than 2lb a week weight loss will do more harm than good, as will any diet that advocates leaving out some types of food from your diet, over-reliance on one or more food types, or that doesn't provide a plan that will allow you to have a pleasant mixed diet for life.

Yes I knew all that just but thought that for 3 days it would give me a boost. I really am going for the change the way you eat for life approach. I hadn't worked out it was muscle you are losing  just thought it would be fluid and fat. Spent the last ten years or so putting on weight going up and up and dieting and going up and up so don't want to lose the chance I've got for changing for good (with the odd lapse).

Sorry Cookie for trying to lead you astray. I just got carried away with the idea of losing so much so quickly. Keep going with what you are doing.

You do lose fluid too - that goes straight back on when you resume normal eating. Up to 3kg lost after crash dieting is fluid. However, what happens when you starve the body in this fashion is that you need to make glucose to fuel muscle activity and other metabolic activity. Because glucose cannot be made from fat, you actually have to burn muscle itself and make the glucose from protein. Thus, when you crash diet, you lose a disproportionate amount of muscle. Because muscle is heavy, and the glycogen in it contains a lot of water, you will lose a lot of weight. That is why crash diets "work" in the short term, but cause yo-yo-ing of weight in the longer term.

I wish there were quick fixes! Wouldn't that be nice?

You are doing very well Cookie. It is really hard to try and make one change, let alone a whole range.

Only just picked up on this thread. You seem to be doing really well Cookie :) I have spent the whole of my life on one diet or another but now have reached a happy medium where I am reasonably content. However, every winter I put on weight as I don't do nearly as much exercise (ie no gardening etc.) I have just managed to lose 4 lbs since Christmas, purely by cutting out anything with fat or sugar (apart from the occasional "meal off") My loved one, however, has lost 1 stone since October. This is because he is taking cortizone for the time being and has to have a salt-free diet. So, no processed foods at all - they all contain salt. This means no ham etc, sausages, bought cakes or biscuits, sauces etc and so it goes on. Nearly all of these contain high fat content too.

From my own point of view, I always have a small amount of bread - never any butter or spread - as it helps to fill you up a bit. Jacket potatoes with a healthy filling are great too. (but only one at a time :lol: ) I also try to add herbs to salads and vegetable s just to give a bit more flavour.

Oh yes, and one more thing, being addicted to Farmville stops the desire to eat - there is no time for food!!!

Keep up the good work - you've a load of us encouragaing you :)

That's true :lol::lol:

Because glucose cannot be made from fat, .

I always thought fat was broken down when the body was short of glucose for energy. What makes the fat break down? :?

Here's supper for you:

Grill aflattened free range chicken breast after smearing with a little olive oil, squeeze with lime juice before serving with a salad of watercress, rocket and spinach sprinkled with a wee bit of balsamic vinegar. Add some diced spring onion and sweet peppers for extra flavour.

Yumptious!
