As we are all confessing about new chooks.....

Recommended Posts

I had a browse on the omlet marketplace a few days ago (as you do :whistle: ) and noticed that there was some one advertising jersey giants amongst other things very near some relatives of mine that i had to go and visit on Monday. So i went just to have a look honest :whistle::liar: with some money and a couple of boxes in the back of the car and came home with a jersey giant and a Rhode Island Red  . I had a spare eglu in the garden that was getting very lonesome. So without further ado here is

Lydia

Why is it that chickens must sit on your shoulder they seem to be magnetically drawn there

and Boadicea

Lydia particularly has been really well handled and so is very tame Boadicea on the other hand is incredibly militant and has already attacked everything that moves except Lydia. Needless to say the other chickens are not impressed and the pekins particularly have taken too sitting on top of the eglu shouting at the newbies, i'd forgotten how loud having new chooks is.

Finally just cause i finally got it off the camera my christmas tree decoration.

Who needs an angel when you can have a pekin. She'd been brought in to have her feet washed and when i put her down for a second she snuck into the living room and climbed into it when it was half finished. Took me an age to find her

Thanks, i'm biased but i think they are gorgeous. I have to say the guy i got them off was brilliant, georgous range of birds with a lot more space than i've seen some people give them. He was also quite happy to show me the parents of the birds and generally give me a tour. It was really hard to only come back with two. The Rhode Island is crouching though not for me she was in with a cockerel and he was definitely treading her so i'm hoping for some eggs soon  Lydia is alot younger than her but certainly not that much smaller it will be interesting to see how big she gets :)

Just how large do Jersey giants get??

The white don't get as big as the black but her mother was about the same size as an Orpington but where the Orpingtons have a lot of fluff which makes them deceptivly big the jerseys are just big.

and thank you for the lovely comments :D
