ubereglu
Well I have a distinct feeling that my hen Starlet is on the way out. She's nearly 5, but for the past couple of days is acting very lethargic and has had her tail down every so often and just looks a bit sad really. She's not eating properly-usually she's very greedy and goes to bed with a very full crop, but the past couple of days she's gone to bed with a half full, very squashy crop and hasn't eaten her corn for supper either. She's keeping up with the others in the garden for half the time, the rest she usually just sits under a bush and goes to bed first-very unusual. I checked her over today, she feels fine and looks quite healthy really. He bum is quitemucky though and she's had a lot of runny poos recently. Also the harder poos she has produced contain a lot of undigested corn. So, do you have any ideas about what I can do or what's wrong with her? Christian
Hi Liz, sorry to hear Starlet isn't quite right. It might be old age as 5 is a good for a hybrid! Although the mucky knickers feathers could indicate worms which would fit with her behaviour.... Squashy crop? Could it be sour crop? Hope she is better soon. chelsea
Runny poos/mucky bum could be worms or it may be something else. Sorry to hear she is poorly. 5 is a very good age. I would keep an eye on her like you are doing, if she deteriorates maybe a trip to the vet?
sandyhas3chucks
youcould send a sampl to Retfords. and you will KNOW in a few days. It might help to be sure. sorry she is not well
Egluntyne
Does her breath smell yeasty? If so, I'd say there is a chance that she has sour crop. The other symptoms might suggest worms. If you are unsure, I'd take her to the vet.
ubereglu
Well, she's perked up a bit today actually, but doesn't seem to have smelly breath. I'll see how she goes, as she's been a bit more vocal today.
