Cadbury Creme Eggs

Recommended Posts

Hi

Having received this email last year (23 January 2009 16:02 )

Thanks for your recent enquiry regarding the very small amount of egg we use in our Cr?me Eggs.

Last year we said we were committed to changing the egg ingredient to one from a free range source and that this change was in line with our broader sustainability agenda.

We have faced certain challenges to ensure consistency of product by switching supply but I am pleased to advise you that we are changing to free range eggs for all Cr?me Eggs produced from later this year which means that eggs on sale for the 2010 season will be free range. They will also contain natural colours.

Thank you once again for taking the time and trouble to contact us.

I have emailed back today

Dear Sir/Madam,

Does this mean that if I buy a Cadbury Cream egg now, it will only contain Free Range eggs ?

What do you think the reply will be this time ??

I am boycotting all Kraft foods now. I am not interested in buying non-fairtrade chocolate nor non-free-range eggs. And I am disgusted that our own British company, Cadbury has been bought out by Americans. How did that happen?

I haven't bought Cadbury's for years but started again recently when they brought in Fairly traded bars. I'm sad that it was short-lived, but my principles come before my stomach!

Here is their reply - I'm surprised that they didn't make more of this ??!!

I have emailed back congratulating them - how long before I get another email correcting this one (or am I just being cynicle ?)

Thanks for your email. I am pleased to say Yes they are.

Well it was Charlie that emailed Poet

Maybe its worth emailing Charlie for 'clarification'

ummm - my emails from 'Charlie' are word for word the same as those to Poet - what a surprise.

I have emailed 'Charlie' back

Hi

Thanks for reply - that is good news - I will pass it onto my chicken keeping friends via a few discussion boards that that you have confirmed that Cadbury Creme eggs now only contain Free Range Eggs.

It might be worth Cadbury's while to issue a press release to campaigners like Battery Hen Welfare Trust who seem to think that you still use Battery eggs (http://www.bhwt.org.uk/creme-eggs.php )

Cadbury's probably won't be here much longer anyway. I have some Green and Black's stuff for cooking left, but I'm not sure whether I'll buy any more - seeing as they sold out to Cadbury's. Certainly won't be buying Cadbury's products (not that I did much anyway) as I refuse to let some gooey tasteless rubbery stuff they call cheese company have my pennies. Think I'll have to check out the local organic shop instead.

only just saw this thread, I heard this from CIWF via facebook. I contacted CIWF to say they should snatch back the good egg award that they gave to Cadbury!

Hello everyone,

We have recently received an update from Cadbury's Creme Eggs. Cadburys has told us that its new free-range egg ingredient in its Cadbury Creme Egg is about to go into use. Some of this year’s production will use it, as will all future production from 2011 onwards. This puts Cadbury ahead of their 2012 Good Egg Award target for completing the move to cage-free egg product.

The say:

"We are pleased that our switch to using only free range egg in Cadbury Creme Egg is about to take place in our Bournville plant. It has taken slightly longer than we would have wished but it was important the quality of the new ingredient did not disappoint the millions of Creme Egg fans out there."

so, I shall ask them again next year!

That's fair enough saying the Bournville factory is switching to free range egg but Cadburys make a lot of stuff in Poland and US. Reading between the lines it appears to say if it isn't made in Bournville then it won't have free range egg in it.

Just noticed they say it has taken longer to switch because of quality  Surely the quality of a free range egg will be better than that of a battery egg
