DebC
Very sadly we had to have my very old cat (nearly 19 years old) put to sleep this morning. It's going to be very strange without her and I really miss her already, she would normally be sat on my desk as I try and type. She came to me as a rescue cat in August 1992 and was fully grown, so I always made the assumption she was born in 1991, but it might have been even earlier - we'll never know. She had a good life after she came to live with me, and I never wanted her to suffer. She was never very brave and had never caught anything! Frankly an earth worm would have been too quick for her! We've only been married for 11 years and it was always a case of "love me, love my cat" So she is now in Pet heaven, which for her will be an endless supply of freshly roasted Chicken! Sorry girls, but she was also a bit dim and never associated you with her favourite meal (if she was human she would have been a dumb blonde! I can say this being blonde myself, well I was once - now it's out of a bottle, but that's another story). She only liked chicken floavoured food, hated fish! and turned her nose up most other flavours So where is heaven for other much loved pets? Olly
So sorry to hear that, 19 is a great age and it sounds as if she had a good life. Pet heaven for my previous cats would be somewhere where the sun shines all the time, the radiator is always on, and "Ooops, word censored!"ody comes along and shakes up the duvet that you're sleeping on! Chickendoodle
Heaven for my much missed chocolate lab, Toby, would be anywhere where there was a ready supply of remote controls to eat So sorry to hear about your cat. I had a cat who was with me at the start of my first marriage, she saw me through the birth of my children, my divorce, and 5 years of my 2nd marriage. She lived to 16 and was very special. Her heaven would be anywhere cosy.
chickencam
Sorry to hear your news. I know how you feel, we got a rescue cat in 1990, she was fully grown reckoned to be 12-18 months old, she lived until the summer of 2007, so she was probably about 19 too. We loved her dearly and it took 2 cats to even begin to fill the hole left in our lives. Needless to say they now more than have their paws under the table and equally loved. It is really hard to say goodbye to a much loved pet especially whe they have lived with you for many years.
craftyhunnypie
Hi I'm really sorry to hear about your sweet cat. When my cat died, I put a note in with her asking for her to put a bit of herself in any new cat that we would have in the future. This may sound daft, but we now have little Poppy (now 9months). She certainly has a lot of Holly in her character wise & is loveable like Holly was. It never replaces the cat you have lost but it keeps her memory alive & to me it really helped. Cat heaven for me is curled up infront of a lovely warm fire, with mummy & daddy tickling 'my ears' whilst 'I' purr with contentment. Hugs to you. franklyrabbit
Very sorry to learn that Purdy is no longer with you - you obviously gave her the best life ever and she'll continue to be with you in your hearts and memories.
chelsea
I am so sorry to hear about your cat 19 years is a huge part of your life. I know how raw it must all feel to you as we only lost our beloved Bracken (dog) nearly a month ago and it has been very very hard. dancing cloud
So sorry to hear about Purdy, who obviously had a long and lovely life with you. For my hens (all ex-batts), heaven is somewhere they can free-range forever, with humans who love them, cuddle them, and provide then with a never-ending supply of mealworms and grapes For my cats (all rescue), heaven would have lots of fleecy beds near warm radiators, a human knee always available for sitting on for a hug, the ability to scratch at the carpet without being told off and, in Puddy's case, non-stop salmon, chicken and cheese (she's a lazy fat cat who's constantly on a diet!) docsquid
Sorry to hear that you lost your lovely cat. I have a 15 year old ginger tom (Willoughby) who has learning difficulties, and he's slowing down even more as he gets older. Squeaker is 13 but still looks and behaves like a young cat, and Ozzy is only 2. Pet heaven: Well, of the cats I've lost, Tribble would be top cat, shredding the ears of all the other local toms, and stealing roast chickens and pieces of pizza and cheese wherever he could get it! Sprocket's heaven would be sitting on your lap, or helping you disassemble a car or motorcycle - she loved mechanical things. Dear little Cindy, Ozzy's twin sister, who was run over last year, would be in heaven when she could hurtle round the walls and climb up the curtains. I guess for Willoughby it would be somewhere warm, soft, with frequent treats of corned beef, salmon or haddock, and an absence of "fiddlin'" by which I mean anything that he doesn't initiate. For Ozzy it would be lying upside down in our arms having his tummy rubbed. For Squeaker it would probably be velvet animal skin cushions, over the top upholstery, and lots and lots of head-rubs. DebC
Thank you for all your kind wishes. I had a feeling there would be lots of unserstanding friends here. Lots of my friends and work colleagues aren't animal people and think I'm a bit strange, but it's been a huge loss. My OH has been very understanding and always knew that she was higher up the pecking order than he was! She was a very pretty cat, and I hope that below I have managed to add some photos. I wear a lot of black for work, so as/when/if I have another cat I might think twice before have a mainly white fluffy one. Thank you for all your support Love from Debbie
chelsea
Lots of my friends and work colleagues aren't animal people and think I'm a bit strange, but it's been a huge loss. I encountered the same problem with my loss I actually received more support and loving thoughts from my virtual friends on here and on FB than I did my real friends/colleagues ((hugs to you))
Space Chick
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss ((hugs)), I agree that animals play such an important role in our lives and we grieve them when they are no longer here. I don't understand why some people struggle to understand that
