Rhapsody
SPOILER POST Ok Daniel good plan If Sam has chosen to stay in the 70's then has he gone back into his coma (by jumpingoff the building and putting himself back into hospital) therefore will he eventually die in 2006 and thus die in 1973 OR has he made the time jump permanent by the act of choosing where he feels the most to be his true reality...? In which case why is he still hearing voices on the radio...is it because of his 'amnesia'?We had quite a heated debate about this in my house! Egluntyne
I won't spoil it....I'll just say I wasn't disappointed. Absolutely the best thing on telly in the past decade in my opinion. Should win every award going.
bronze
PS I liked the rail blue Class 47 too - very sexy! Sadly I thought of you when I saw it Is he back in a coma or is the now life the dream/coma one and hes actually gone back to reality? I love these things where you can never be quite sure
Laura & CTB
SPOILER I'm a bit confused as well - I think his 70's life is the real one as the barman said about if you can feel then you're alive and it was 2006 that he couldnt feel anything. The bit with the test card girl made me jump - I nearly threw my (full) glass of wine across the living room!
theherd123
SPOILER The bit with the test card girl made me jump - I nearly threw my (full) glass of wine across the living room! Me too! It got the heart racing!!!
Cinnamon
SPOILER BELOW I thought it was great too - although I am not sure how much of it I understood I liked the fact that that bloke was telling Sam that he had had an accident in '73 & they had given him a new identity & he was an undercover cop. That explained a lot for me. But then he saw the light in the tunnel & woke from his coma in 2006, & seemed to make a recovery......... I am glad he went back to where he felt happiest,& I will admit to shedding a (tiny) tear. Top class show, brilliant acting, how on earth will the Beeb top this one? Tom and Barbara
SPOILER oooh my brain hurt after that! ok i can't decide if he's 'dead' or if he just put himself back in the coma....but either way, how long will he get to 'stay' in the 70's?!? he definitely WAS in the future there's no doubt about that although I liked Morgan's amnesia theory - it appealed to my tidy nature lol LOVED the little details like Hyde Ward and room number 2162 superb, well done beeb http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6542633.stm
Cinnamon
They should have called the follow up "Gene Genie"
Tom and Barbara
i think it definitely signified the end of the 'link' between future and past dan
chocchick
How good was that?! Was anyone else singing/humming along to David Bowie all the way through the ending, or was it just us? Spoiler It would have been really mean not to save Gene and everyone at the end. He messed poor Annie about though wth I'm going, oh no I'm not The test card girl terrifies me

Egluntyne
The new series set in the '80's, staring Philip Glennister as the steadfastly unreconstructed Gene Hunt will be called Ashes to Ashes ( another Bowie song). The character of Sam Tyler will not be in it. There is a single parent theme apparently. Looking forward to it. Channel 4 and ITV both turned down Life on Mars! Some red faces there I imagine! Guest
I wonder who the single parent is
Popcorn
SPOILER BELOW What a great ending, albeit a bit confusing for me in places. As far as I can see it wouldn't matter if Sam was being kept alive in 2006. Technically he'd be dead anyway if he was being kept alive by a machine. From what the doctors were saying at the end it sounded as if they were loosing him. Back in 1973, once he's stopped pining for his 2006 life, I'd say the voices and TV appearances from '06 would stop too. Saying that though, I've no idea if Sam would die in both '06 and '73 if they turned off his life support or he died in his coma. Maybe that's why there's a single parent in the new Ashes to Ashes series? Can anyone help with my question below? I didn't understand why Morgan was trying to prevent Sam from returning to 2006 by convincing him that his coma theory was all wrong and he was confused from his accident, and then showing him the gravestones to back it up. Surely once Sam had completed his undercover job and Morgan had nailed Gene, Sam could leave. If Morgan was right and Sam had got amnesia and 2006 was all in his mind, why would Sam continue with the operation to ruin Gene if he wasn't sure about either theory? Sam obviously had a lot of respect for Gene. Why would he want to ruin his career and the career's of the other guys and Annie by working for Morgan? That just doesn't add up for me. Especially when Sam goes back. They all seemed to forgive him too quickly for being a spy and "Ooops, word censored!"ody questioned what would happen now that Morgan had got loads of evidence against Gene? and....did anyone spot the look Morgan the surgeon gave Sam when he came out of his coma in 2006? Almost as if Morgan knew about Sam's double life. Edited April 11, 2007 by Guest
Tom and Barbara
i DID see the look he gave him....while he was blowing his own trumpet about what an 'achievement' it was to get him back! and there's no way that Morgan's amnesia theory was right - how would sam know about Robocop and Tony Blair?? Popcorn
We said that too. Sam knew too much about 2006. Those small touches were what made the series so brilliant. Why would Sam question it?
chocchick
SPOILER BELOW I didn't understand why Morgan was trying to prevent Sam from returning to 2006 by convincing him that his coma theory was all wrong and he was confused from his accident, and then showing him the gravestones to back it up. Surely once Sam had completed his undercover job and Morgan had nailed Gene, Sam could leave. Sam did leave and go back to 2006 when the team were left for dead next to the train in Morgan'd evil plan If Morgan was right and Sam had got amnesia and 2006 was all in his mind, why would Sam continue with the operation to ruin Gene if he wasn't sure about either theory? Sam obviously had a lot of respect for Gene. Why would he want to ruin his career and the career's of the other guys and Annie by working for Morgan? They needed him for the operation. Presumably by coming clean he was saying that he was on Gene's side. That just doesn't add up for me. Especially when Sam goes back. They all seemed to forgive him too quickly for being a spy and "Ooops, word censored!"ody questioned what would happen now that Morgan had got loads of evidence against Gene? It seemed all too nice and convenient. Mayve Sam could save the day again and....did anyone spot the look Morgan the surgeon gave Sam when he came out of his coma in 2006? Almost as if Morgan knew about Sam's double life. You don't know what to think. Morgan does suggest it is paranormal.... Sam must be from 2006 because of his knowledge, to me he just prefers the 70s. His health in 2006 had knock-on effects in the 70s, so if he did die at the end it must follow that he dies in the 70s, I'd like to think it's not real life and he does just stay where he is happy though
Egluntyne
Didn't do as well as I would have expected on the TV Bafta's. Why wasn't Philip Glenister nominated? He made the show!
