Olly
How awful, and especially hard for your OH not to tell you earlier, very thoughtful of him though not to worry you any more when you already had your mum to look after. Please don't be put off chicken-keeping, it's a horrible experience but no doubt you will reinforce the run and make everything doubly secure, so it won't happen again. Very sorry. Lewis
I'm sorry .... know exactly how you feel when after the fox visited us yesterday. Our fences at the top are all rubbish and have needed replacing for a while, but the one at the back has a massive hole and is all broken even more now - presumably where he got in. Gelbel
Folks - I want to thank you for all your kind comments. They really did help lift the spirits - I will personally try to support any fellow hen lovers who post similar horror stories - it's the least I can do to replay everyone's kindness. Anyway - onwards and upwards. My DH has cleared all the run area, our flower beds have a new layer of hemcore and poo. We are putting in new garden fencing over the next couple of weekends. I am all for laying barbed wire along the out boundary fence to out property too (that's where the fox got in). Last night I brought two narrow WIR runs off ebay that I will join together to make one large one. Having a handy DH we are going to attach this to one of the sides of the wooden coop/run we have to make a massive covered area for our next three. When it's all set up I will put pictures on the WIR ideas thread - but I will add here I have ideas for a mezzanine. So roll on the end of the month when we can get three new girls to come and live in what will be fortress Hendingley Stadium.
Laura & CTB
I'm so glad to hear this hasn't put you off - just made you more determined with the Fort Knox approach. Good luck with the WIR project - I look forward to new run and new chickky photos

Gelbel
if you was planning on getting an eglu in/out that door might be a tight squeeze... weeeeeeeny door.. It's me that's going to find that door a squeeze. We are going to open up and bolt the 'back' of one of the runs against open door of the run/coop we have. I had problems explaining the plan to the DH last night yet alone type an explanation.
