My beautiful girls gone

Recommended Posts

Hello. I'm sat here breaking my heart. I have been down in Bristol since Tuesday looking after my Mum following a hip replacement op. I got home a little while ago. My poor DH had to tell me that my beautiful girls were all got by a fox on Wednesday. By the looks of it, it's been digging and chewing, ripping - all sorts - at the fence to our garden for a few days and finally got through and got them.

Because the weather was so awful and because I was worried about Mum I did not do my big weekend clean and check last weekend - if I had of done I may have noticed there was evidence it was trying to get in and I could've taken measures.

I am devastated but my poor husband has had to keep it from me when I've been asking about them.

I'd driven home with a smile on my face looking forward to Rita sprinting to a treat of corn and a cuddle from my lovely Joy - won't ever happen again.

I hope it won't put you off chickenkeeping when you clearly loved them so much.

It won't - poor DH was telling me the neighbours have said they will come round to help make that complete WIR for us when they asked after the girls yesterday and he had to tell them. DH said we'll get 3 more when we get home from holiday at the end of the month. Poor love was crying more than me when he was telling me and says he cannot image not ever having any again and he loved them as much as me.

People with WIR be very careful - it was the external side (ie not directly from my garden but from the open land next door) to my totally enclosed area that the fox got though.

While at the moment it's SO very, very raw and a massive shock I will get some more they are the best pets I ever had.

Thanks for everybodies' kind comments - I am sat here listening to the online local radio commenatry as I am not up to going to the rugby this afternoon; doubt if I could see the pitch.
