Well we've been out for lovely walk - we invested in a double buggy yesterday, so we were able to take our 2 baby foslings with us and even DS (16) wanted to come with us, so it was nice that all of us were able to participate.

 

.....boy that double buggy is heavy though!

Hate the price hike for mothers day but loved the interflora flowers (tulips in vase) and chocs from my daughter in eire - they are lovely but unnecessary really as expensive!

i had breakfast in bed made by my dd and ds also cards from cats chickens and dogs then it was get dressed and off to my pony driving lessons had a fab time

I had a super day & was glad I cancelled the meal out.

 

I pottered in the garden in the sun - it was really quite warm!

Planted up a few things,tidied up a bit,played with the cat & the hens

Had a beer in the sun at lunchtime,so had a snooze in the afternoon - now have the M&S roast lamb meal deal cooking away & they house smells heavenly.

 

Little daughters latest boyf came to visit,so we all got to meet him, & the girls both bought me sme Lush bits & pieces,which was lovely.

 

All in all a quiet but a happy day ,which is what I wanted this year.

we all had a full afternoon tea at The Maritime Museum Dining Rooms, overlooking stunning views of The Mersey and the new Liverpool Museum; finger sandwiches (smoked salmon, ham, and cream cheese and cucumber) and various little cakes/petit fours etc and a lovely pot of 'scouse breakfast tea'.

Mother's Day over here is some time in May (same day as in the US & Australia I believe) so I'd completely forgotten about it. But my Mum & her partner are currently staying with us, so I just shared Mother's Day with my Mum for the first time in a long time......which was nice. It was a gloriously hot day, so we gave up on all plans of doing touristy stuff, everyone seemed happy to potter around the garden, soaking up the sun, chatting & generally relaxing, then we went out for a meal in the evening. It was a good day, even though it wasn't planned as a Mother's Day celebration.

 

Monday morning now though.....back to work for me, after I've dropped Mum & D at the car hire place...they're shooting off to do some exploring while we're all at school/work again.

Thoroughly spoilt with a lie in and a boiled Welsummer egg and toastie soldiers in bed, some nice toiletries and voucher for a facial from YD and for some reason a St Patrick's Day card from my ES (I think he was trying to be ironic!) full of lovely sentiments, then sunday lunch cooked for me and my Mum by my lovely husband.

 

Only thing that detracted from the day was having to revise and also prepare a presentation for a job interview on Thursday

 

Otherwise a lovely day! (contented sigh)

I had a lovely mummies day too. I don't have any children, but my Poppy cat was a real sweetie today. I had a lie in bed with the biggest cuddles ever from Poppy cat, who fell asleep & so I couldn't move until about 10.30am. Gosh how I love that cat!

I was also given a springy mouse from her - ie: she brought me her favourite toy on the bed, a furry mouse with a long spring sticking out of it. It was once on her roundabout toy!

That is ultimate love when she brings you that.

Had scrambled eggs on toast for lunch - heaven.

I then had a sunny day getting the garden straight, chook watching & with hubby.

Now having a very late roast beef dinner& New york cheesecake Mmm mmm mmm.

 

Bliss! You don't have to have children, to enjoy Mummies day. I'm Poppy's mummy & I love my cat!

I had a lovely day. DD hand-drew caricatures of the bunny, all 7 hens and some bees in my card. She also bought me the next 2 books in the "Bunnicula" series. Then she took me to a creperie for a 2-course lunch and then we vegged out catching up on Grey's Anatomy and watched Pretty Woman. A really girly day.

I'm feeling a bit grumbly and sorry for myself.

Despite having 4 'usually quite nice' children, there wasn't a card or a mention from the three at home although i did get a lovely text from The Lurker .

 

I took the family to Crufts for a day out (and some research) where there were ample opportunities to get their decrepit old mum a cream cake - much less a cup of tea - nah.

 

Home in the evening and I said - "come on now you lot, there must be a card between the lot of you?" Cue sheepish glances.

 

MY YD spends hours looking for 'just the right card' for her friends' birthdays: I think they've officially passed out of the phase of wanting to treat mummy

Puppy research Laurie.. does OH know this??? (do you remember those goregous puppies at Jude's last year? Her dogs are having another litter this year, not sure when they are due though).

 

I had a lovely relaxing day too, after very little sleep as Rosie had a sleepover on Saturday night. I was up with the lark to walk the dog in the early morning sun, then cleaned out the animals in the sun while Phil 'cooked' the M&S meal deal for lunch (salmon). After lunch, we went to see his folks and walk the dog in the beech woods near them. Rosie was very tired and grumpy and had forgotten to make me a card

Well I got the shock of my life. I was rudely awoken by my bedroom door being banged open. In came DS with a tray with a fried egg in an English muffin, and a bowl of homemade museli. He couldn't find any museli in the cupboard so he used his imagination and made his own. Porridge oats, raisins, sliced banana and chopped cadbury's Dairy milk chololate. It was a surprisingly nice combination and I was really touched. This from a boy who normally struggles to get out of bed before 11am at the weekend.

 

I think he put his sisters' noses out of joint. I got a lovely card and a DVD of the first series of Ashes To Ashes from ED and a card with a daffodil on it that YD made at school, she said that they were all given a flower template which they were meant to follow, but she knew that I love daffodils so she had an argument with the teacher so that she could make me a daffodil

 

I was looked after by OH and the children all day. I pottered around the garden and planted a standard rose bush which OH bought for me when we went to the garden centre. I am hoping that the chooks can't reach that high to eat the buds on this one unlike my other roses.

 

It was a lovely day both weather wise and as a special day

I spent the weekend at Rutland Water house parenting for 18 yoofs, does that count???

DS was there, and sidled up with a card and gift, but I was NOT allowed to show any affection to him

I am getting dome Guinea pigs from my kids in a few weeks as they are too young yet i had mentioned getting them and they said they would buy them for me

With good reason ! too be honest with a husband who is hopeless at 'events' and 2 boys I gently make sure DH knows it is going to be mothers day and I have a standing order for chocolates and plants for mothers day. I think if yours are 'growing' out of the do nice things for mothers day age a gentle reminder a few days before the day next year is called for rather than hoping they will remember.

 

My boys brought me 2 cups of tea in bed whilst I read the paper (both requested, my eldest wrote down my oder for a cup of tea and half a toasted hot cross bun for 8.30am so he'd remember ) and they made late breakfast (slightly dry scrambled egg with smoked salmon and toast - they now realise the seemingly effortless production of even simple meals takes more effort than they thought)

Commiserations as we all love to be spoiled, but it doesn't mean that your kids love you any the less - they are just more wordly wise and not prey to commercial cons such as Mother's day. (which is really entirely un-commercial 'Mothering Sunday' in the religious calendar)s

 

Your kids will suprise you during the year with little gestures that mean far more than some commercial card and mass produced present.
