Unless of course you like playing the 'Who hates their Mother-in-Law Most' game in the restaurant, the glum faces are priceless As long as I dont have to cook anything, I always have a happy day. We went out last year,to the same place,& it was horrendous - people letting their children run around the restaurant screaming. Might think again on that one.... Busybird Posted March 12, 2010 Share Posted March 12, 2010 OH is taking DS1 and DS2 to play in a hockey tournament. I will probably end up ferrying DD too and from her training and cooking dinner in between (usual sort of Sunday really). I had MIL and FIL over for dinner last weekend as they are away from today . OH rang them last night to tell his mum he wasn't giving her anything as she was away. I do wonder what she thought of that but at least she knows he didn't forget (well, he had me to remind him). It occurred to me late yesterday that I had done nothing for my mum so I rushed through an on line flower / card / chocolate order I think that is me covered. chickencam Posted March 12, 2010 Share Posted March 12, 2010 We will eat out tomorrow sometime to avoid the Sunday crush. ED is at a sleep over tonight and is working on Sunday morning. DS is well aware that it is Mothering Sunday but I am not holding my breath. YD will spoil me though she loves doing stuff for people. My OH spent yesterday evening making and decorating cupcakes for his Mum. They are going in the post this morning so we have stuck them down to a sturdy cake box with sticky dots and covered them with greaseproof paper. If they get through intact though I will be amazed. I asked DS if he will be making me cakes when he is in his 40's, he just laughed I am sending my Mum a homemade card and some homemade fruitcake. DD is playing in her first rugby match on Sunday afternoon so we thought we would get a carry out in the evening and my mum will join us. Olly Posted March 12, 2010 Share Posted March 12, 2010 I don't have a mum any more - at least not where I can buy her a card or a present - and I usually avoid going anywhere where I might be reminded that it's Mothering Sunday. I will be going out though, as I have one of my Contact the Elderly tea-parties! Most of our elderly guests have no family, so the day isn't special for them either, and we'll be gathering at our host's home for tea, cake and sandwiches and a lovely chat. Chickendoodle Posted March 12, 2010 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Mr girls are taking me out to lunch on Mothers Day. We will raise a glass to my Mum and MIL who are both no longer with us. My Mum has been gone 5 years now (she was only 70 when she died) and the first Mothers Day after she died was very hard. I can remember having to leave a shop very quickly as they had a display of cards and it really hit me hard then that she had gone and I no longer had a Mum. Seagazer Posted March 12, 2010 Share Posted March 12, 2010 Well its my birthday on Sunday too so we are going down to the caravan tonight to open it up after the winter break. Then I can go and gaze at the sea to my heart's content (probably from under an umbrella and with a thick coat on). We are taking my mum with us so she can see my brother and sister too and I think we will find somewhere to have something to eat. If its dry and not too cold then I would like to have fish and chips at The Pilot at Dungeness. We sit outside as we always have Cookie with us.
