After my usual rant of "it's just a marketing ploy on behalf of card companies and other businesses boosting their coffers with overpriced items for the day blahblahblah", I still get Erin wasting her money on me - for goodness sake my birthday is next month. So she is taking me to see an exhibition in Farnham to do with sugarcraft (which is what she would like to have a go at). After seeing some of the exhibits at Olympia I'm hoping it's all going to be very interesting. I'm looking at it as not a Mother's Day thing, but something unusually arty.

 

And after all my rantings I have bought my mum a couple of plants for the garden and a card today.

I've instructed OH not to buy me any limp flowers or out of date chocs (yes, he's done both in the past ) on behalf of the boys. I will be delighted with their handmade goodies that were bundled into the house today after school 'in secret' amidst lots of whispering and scooting about looking for hiding places And I've no doubt I will get a lovely card from my lovely step-daughter, who always remembers me on Mothers Day.

It will be a bittersweet day for me as well as my Mum died far too young and never met her gorgeous grandsons. We might pop over and surprise my lovely step mum instead (Hm, think I might rustle up a cake for her tomorrow )

My friends mom passed away last weekend, so will be a very hard time for her.

We are going to see Alice in Wonderland for my mothers day treat. Then they are cooking so I dont have to.

Been out on Mothers Day for a meal on a few occasions and it all been a bit 'get what you are given and be grateful', busy and noisy. Id rather go when its quiet.

 

I have to confess, I LOVE Mothers Day. My birthday is on Christmas eve and we are always so busy that I feel I dont get that whole Birthday feet up and chill and be pampered thing so I take Mothers day as chance to do that. Well for an hour or two anyway

 

We will go and see my Mother in Law too with Card/choccys/flowers

Already spent the day with mine on Thursday as she is an hours drive away but will call her on Sunday morning for a chat.

Mothers Day/Joint birthday celebrations just got better Mr Griffin is taking all the kids to see Alice In Wonderland tomorrow afternoon while I get to stay at home watching the gee gees

 

I'll certainly spare a thought for a lovely lady I know on Sunday. Her first and only baby was stillborn over Christmas. Every day since has been a struggle and I know Sunday will be another kick in the teeth for her.

DD is away at UNI...but I have received an interesting envelope today smothered in her handwriting....

 

I'm optimistically hoping for a walk to our local hostelry and a large glass of something soothing later in the day...don't hold your breath

Probably we won't be doing anything. MIL is going to BIL for lunch, and my Mum passed away 3 years ago. We don't have any kids, so they won't be treating me to anything either.

 

I guess we'll just spend the day working at a wildlife site as usual!

I was just remembering the times I was given one of their toys wrapped up in old paper or the very precious necklace made out of painted pasta and wool. I once was given a poppy day remembrance cross from the previous november, painted with a smiley face. I loved those crazy things.

Yes me too, the most wonderful gifts ever Not connected with Mother's Day exactly, but my fondest memories were going to bed at night finding a little piece of paper on or under my pillow saying "I love you Mummy". Now they are 27, 37 and 39 I don't get that any more

As far a s Mothers Day goes, I always get a little card or a phonecall from each of them. Mothers Day as such, doesn't actually mean anything to me as I just love hearing from them at anytime.

I get a card but that's just a token something, it's too close to my birthday (22nd) or my mom's (16th) or my MIL's (6th) not including my sons and nieces birthday which they share with their nan (16th) so we don't make a big thing of Mothering Sunday. I am going to my MIL's for dinner my other niece said she is the youngest mum so she will cook dinner for the rest of us

 

I love the home made things *sigh* my children at 12 and very nearly 10 don't want to make me anything any more!

Off to church in the morning followed by a home cooked vegy roast dinner then we are all going up the garden to sort out the vegy patch & greenhouse before some very good friends pop over in the afternoon!

mine have just given me homemade cards and my pressies (as we'll be in a rush in the morning) I ahve another trollbead bracelet, fish lock, and 3 silver charms to go with the black and white bead set I bought myself a while back me spoilt?? never!

My DS ( has promised me breakfast in bed, and while I was, ahem, 'persuading' DS and DD to clean their bedrooms this morning, they were hiding the cards they've made me.

 

So, hopefully breakfast in bed (cold toast and lukewarm tea!), then church - me and the kids - and then a quick swim in the afternoon, followed by a nice dinner cooked by DH for me and the in-laws

 

As long as I get a lovely kiss and a cuddle from the kids, I don't mind what else the day brings!

I remember them doing it when they were small though. They knew they weren't allowed to cook anything,so I got uncooked crumpets & a pint glass of tomato juice,which unfortunately fell off the tray they were carrying & tipped all over then bedroom carpet which had been laid that week

well I was trapped in my bedroom for an hour this morning. Despite me threatening small boy not to wake me at 5.30am as he has every day this week, he still woke me at 6. Cue lots of pattering of feet and loud "Ssshhhhhh!!!" from the stairs and downstairs. Then one ALMIGHTY crash as ED tripped up the stairs thereby showering herself in orange juice and soaking the slightly overheated pain au chocolat. However, by half 6 I had eaten a somewhat chewy pain au chocolat with hint of orange, had a sip of the 1/2 inch of juice left at the bottom of the glass. Unfortunately, despite having had 364 days notice of the Mothers Day approaching, I was then told repeatedly, "Don't come down" followed by lots of loud whispering from the front room until 7.30 when I was allowed down to three lovely baskets of narcissi they'd bought from school (well, I'd paid for them actually ) four cards (some shop bought and some home made ) They'd "decorated" the front room by sprinkling glitter all over the floor for it to catch the sun, then insisted on "helping" me by making their own breakfast. I'm still clearing up!!

 

It's been lovely, best breakfast in bed I've had yet!

Spending today moving the contents of all the kitchen cupboards in to the dining room getting ready for the new kitchen arriving next week and when I have done that am going to the council recycling centre to dump all the unwanted stuff plus the rubbish from the garage so we can get the old cabinets in for a workshop!

 

Might find time to watch the Grand Prix in amongst all that!

 

But future DIL did come over yesterday with flowers, chocolates and Bolly as DS is offshore at the moment!

 

DH is flying cadets today but I am sure will pour me a glass of bubbly tonight if I am not asleep on the sofa when he gets in!

 

Thinking of Jue today too, smile and remember the lad in happy times x

I went to see my mum yesterday, ill pop in and see her later on today too (im Duke of Edinburgh walking today ) I made her clip on earrings, some flapjack and chocolate chip muffins (a la poet ) she was happy

Its my birthday today as well as Mothers Day, so am having an absolutely lovely time! Spent Friday night in a lovely hotel with NO children, spent yesterday walking the coast path with NO children, and now spending a day in the garden with the kids! What more could I want?! (Not seeing MIL would be the icing on the non existent cake!!)

Not quite as bad - I was woken from a very sound sleep at 6am by 7yr old bringing me all his goodies made at school, had to try to read his writing in the half light through very groggy eyes that were refusing to open He finally disappeared to give me a bit longer in bed, only to turn up again just as I got back to sleep with younger brother in tow and his goodies, and honey sandwiches for me for breakfast. I gave up and got out of bed then

No lie in for me today - after standing in the freezing wind yesterday watching ES play footy, today we had to leave at 7.30am to take YS to play his match vs Stoke City Academy.

 

Have just got back and ES has taken dog out and YS is in the bath. I am going to build a lego model for them now, and we are having duck/steak for dinner - I will have to cook as OH is away for 5 weeks in the Carribean

 

The boys have been good - had lovely made and bought cards and OH made sure some flowers were delivered. The boys met the florist at the end of the drive so they could present me with the bouquet.

 

Being an orphan and having my own boys makes me appreciate all my Mum did and also the time I have with my 2, even if its early starts and cold pitches.

Thoughts and hugs to others who are missing their Mums today and also those Mums who have children watching over them.
