I have bitten the bullet and called omlet today and bought a (cube purple) .

I am going to make a WIR for it to attach to, I dont have any hens yet, infact I dont intend to get them till early July! as we are away for 2 weeks just before then and I didnt think it fair on our neighbours to provide for 2 weeks!

It gives me plenty of time to get the run built and everything in place ready for new arrivals.

I had a bit of good fortune today whilst looking for corrugated plastic for the roof of the run

I found a local "sheeting" company that supply all types of metal, plastic, fibre glass cladding. On their website they list that they always have lots of "seconds" available for bargain prices. So I paid them a visit today and they had loooads of sheeting in different lengths, widths and profiles. I chose 4 x 6" profile "vistalux" in 10 ft lengths 1m wide for £30. They were not really damaged at all. When I came to loading the yard man let me have 5 as thats all they had left anyway! so 5 big sheets for £30, bargain!

I looked the sheets online and they retail at around £25 each + VAT so am well happy!

Just got to order the mesh from hills of Devon and I will have pretty much everything to build the WIR ( except time lol!)

Decided to put the (cube purple) together today just to check everything was in order.

All fairly straight forward but seem to have one issue:

I didnt order a run so I got the standard legs/wheels that fix each side underneath the base. These come with the small pieces of wire run that enclose the wheel foot lever assemblies.

Once I had the whole thing built I tried to engage the wheels on each side, but when each lever goes down it has to engage in the "hooked" shape piece of metal which keeps it in the down position. Unfortunately the foot levers only just sit in these slots so as soon as you attempt to move the cube by the wheels the foot levers slip out of the slot and the levers just come straight up.

I assume that if you buy the run with it then you get a rectangle of mesh which goes between the two foot pedals, all I can assume is that having this attached pulls the two corner parts of the green tubing together which in turn keeps the foot levers in place when engaged in their down position.

Hope that makes sense! Has anyone else who doesnt have the run had a similar issue?

Is there a "fix" for it apart from getting the extra piece from the run set.

As it is the wheels are simply not useable as they just disengage as soon as you move the cube.

I think I can fix it by attaching a length of wood between foot levers to keep the 2 wheel assemblies closer together which will keep the levers in the "hook"

The "hook" could really do with being more of a vertical slot to fit into and not a diagonal slope.

If you dont have a cube this wont make much sense!

Im going to phone omlet in a bit to explain it to them.

Also, we built the cube in the lounge because of the rain, then thought "will it actually fit through the patio doors? "

Answer, it will, sideways with 4mm to spare

Any thoughts on the wheel issue?

Sounds like you have them the wrong way round. I'll go and check mine. I removed the middle bit between the wheels to make a door when I split the run for introductions and the lever still engaged so I don't think that will be it. :?

The wheel assemblies are definately on the right way round as are the 2 levers you have to fix on with bolts, they are exactly the same as in the picture in the instructions (I had to check as my wife had followed the instructions, well I am a man after all! )

Its not a big deal as I wont be moving the cube very far once its in place but it seems like it needs a little adaption to the "hooks" where the lever engages.
