The Dogmother
Inside my new under-sink cupboard, there's no middle shelf due to all the pipeage gubbins, but I need to maximise the space in that cupboard to fit everything in... I want summat like this (from IKEA - it slides out) to attach to the sides of the cupboard inside. Has anyone here got any reviews or comments on what they have done with their under-sink black hole? It doesn't need to slide out, but that'd be helpful.
abwsco
I wanted something posh and fancy under mine but couldn't either due to pipework so DH made me some shelves that are an L shape but with the flat bottom on the top iykwim. He fixed them to either side of the cupboard and left a gap big enough for the pipework. Probably a rubbish explanation and I'm not taking a pic as it looks a mess-lol
Christian
I have that exact one from Ikea. I use it for herbs/spices etc. Works well and easy to fit
Daphne
I have a slide out wire tray which is about 4" deep. It runs on runners on the side of the cupboard and doesn't go right to the back of the cupboard where my pipes are; so its maybe 3/4 the depth of the cupboard. It was here when I moved in so I have no idea where it came from, and it would be no good if you had low pipes on either side either. But at least something must exist; hopefully you'll find it! Sam Palmer
We have the Ikea one, in an Ikea cupboard, which houses our electricity and gas meters. We put the cupboard in around them, the electricity meter is on the wall and the gas on the floor, so we cut a hole on the floor of the cupboard for it. The pull-out storage thingy utilises the space to the other side of the meters.
The Dogmother
I have that exact one from Ikea. I use it for herbs/spices etc. Works well and easy to fit Would it hold bottles of cleaning gubbins and rolls of greaseproof paper? I'm trying to get an idea of the scale of it. I saw something not dissimilar in Homebase, as part of a racking system, it screwed to the side of the cupboard and was about £11. I could get that I guess and take it back if it didn't fit/work out. Olly
Those Ikea ones are great, I had them in my last kitchen. Under my sink however there's not much room due to waste disposal unit, so I've got this Lakeland jobby. I had to do a lot of fiddling to get it to fit, but it just gives me that extra layer to put stuff in. I think the slidey-out one would be better if you could fit it in, though! The Dogmother
Thanks Olly. Looking at that, I'm not sure that it would work - the pipeage is quite wide if you get my drift. I might get the measurements of the IKEA one and see if it'd fit. I currently have a plastic box in the bottom with an assortment of bottles and stuff in it, but there's a lot of unused space at the top on each side. Christian
Would it hold bottles of cleaning gubbins and rolls of greaseproof paper? It isn't that tall for bottles, but I guess if they were shorter, then yes. Greaseproof paper, foil etc would be fine though.
Sam Palmer
We have all sorts of cleaning-related bottles and containers in ours. It's pretty sturdy.

Aunty e
In the old house I put one of those pull out wire baskets in the bottom, so that I could reach the stuff at the back without having to take everything out. We had some little boxes that stuff stacked into and it was great. I really miss my old kitchen

The Dogmother
I realised the same thing when I cleared out all my old cupboards before I took the old kitchen out. I have one box of cleaning stuff back in there, but nowhere to put the rest!
Egluntyne
I've avoided clicking on this thread as I thought it would be full of photos of tidy cupboards with rows and rows of Lock & Lock boxes. Mentioning no names.
The Dogmother
Not in my cupboards Egluntyne ..... you'd be horrified at mine. I am so busy doing cooking of an evening that it just gets bunged back in

Alis girls
Funny I did the same - you open my cupboards and the contents attack you. Many a time I have been accosted by a Tshirt or OH's smalls (or larges ) falling out. No wonder I'm a gibbering wreck
Charlottechicken
I'm afraid I went the cheap route and cut a hole in the shelf to fit around the trap outlet thingy. Then I attached a couple of stabilising legs to support the shelf either side of the cutout, if that makes sense.
Blackrocksrock
I took the same approach and cut the shelf - or rather oh did but then we got a water filter as we have water off the hill and a ph filter and there was no room for a shelf so ditched it and have a couple of storage boxes instead - not very tidy though!! Then I attached a couple of stabilising legs to support the shelf either side of the cutout, if that makes sense. I thought of that, but wasn't sure if it'd work as the pipeage takes up such a lot of room - will have a look again when I go home for lunch as it'd be the ideal solution - I still have the extra shelf from there.
