Orpingtons/Brahmas....how loud are they? *UPDATE*

Recommended Posts

I have two buff orps, they are lovely and love to chatter but it isn't loud chattering. They do have quite loud egg announcments though but they dont do it everytime they lay an egg. They really are lovely chickens, I would defo recommend you getting some

One thing i find sweet about my orps is that you'll go to shut them up at night and as mine dont like to perch they sleep on the floor. So i'll look in and Chesnut is tucked in under Honey to keep nice and snug!

Only Buffie was ever broody out of my 4 :anxious: ..........mine are of the "haven't read the instructions" school of Orpies so lay as & when they feel like it....... don't go broody at the drop of a hat and as for crouching...what's that :lol:

I've got a better recording of the winge-bags creating because I was feeding the Pekins not them  .....will get it on here soon :anxious:

I have a Black Orpington. She is an odd size, sort of midway between a bantam and full size.

She came to live with me because she was too noisy for the garden where she lived before with Laurmurfs chooks :oops::oops: .

She doesn't screech, she just sort of grumbles....ALOT, but she is such a prima dona that nothing is ever to her liking  . We forgive her though, because she is so beautiful.

She is much quieter since living with us. She found, to her horror  , that each time she set off on one of her rants, it attracted the attention of my big Sussex cockerel and he immediately came and gave hers lots of attention  .

She doesn't approve of such vulgar behaviour with commoners, or having her feathers ruffled so she's shut up a lot now :lol::lol::lol: .

Can imagine she'd look like Griffins black bantam :lol:

Speaking of who ... where is Laurie

She's in Northern France on holiday with the family at the moment.

I don't know if this is normal behaviour, but my cockeral will often accompany one of the ladies into the house when she lays. If she is extra lucky she may get a personal seranade as well at 100 decibels. This possibly explains why the egg laying is a bit erratic at the moment
