ali-s
I have pre ordered 2 Cream Legbars from a hobby breeder some miles away. Just waiting to hear if he will have any to spare. I have been browsing on another forum and a few people there have said that this breed is very stressy and can keel over and die from stress when moved. Also prone to the same just before coming into lay. Now I don't want to buy them and they die on me I need reasurrance from any Cream Legbar owners here that they will be fine please. Redwing
Well they are quite highly strung but I've never heard of them keeling over suddenly I have just raised two chicks and they grew well and are absolutely tip top condition despite a few moves of brooders and pens I also have an adult one who doesnt like to be moved but it results in nothing worse than a sulk if she is I'm sure you'll have no problems and congratulations
Falkor
My CLB Saffy is a little skitty but other than that she is just like my other chooks. I have never heard of CLB being a breed that are known for keeling over and dying often. I visitedCLB breeder from another forum yesterday and all her CLB looked stunning and healthy. half dozen
My CLB Abbey is beautiful. She can be a little harder to catch than the others but is now becoming very nosey and quite a comic. She started laying beautiful blue eggs in jan and we must have had one almost everyday since!!
ali-s
Thanks for the reassurances I must stop browsing other poultry forums, all the advise I need I can find on here. Treekeeper
I've got a cream legbar and a gold legbar both mad as a box of frogs but I've never heard of them keeling over and both of them are laying regularly
grracee
I've got a cream legbar and she's great! I've read alot that CLB's can be very flighty but mine seems to be fine. The only time i've ever seen her abit flighty is when she sees the mop coming but other than that no probs and i would highly recommend getting one. Never heard of them to keel over and die though. Plus! I find them to be great egg layers, mine lays at least once everyother day and perfect sky blue eggs
Space Chick
My CLB is a darling, and is a very relaxed girl. She was very flighty to start but calmed down when she came into lay. Now she's my most affectionate girl and loves a cuddle
chickyhazel
I've never heard of chickens keeling over and dying suddenly, and I don't know anyone with chickens, including those with CLBs, who have experienced this. Congratulations
sjp
my CLB's the same as Space Chick's she started off jumpy and nervy mainly because she was bottom of the pecking order but that all changed when she started to lay she soon worked out the best way to get her share of treat was to climb on to My leg (I sit on the back step when I feed them) if that doesn't work she walks down my arm to get to the treats either sits on my hand or the rim of the treat tub she's the only one small enough to do that certenly a breed worth having in any back yard flock
Carol U
I have both cream and gold legbars and they're great. They do everything at a million miles an hour and the cream is the ringleader in any mischief - a real little character. We've been gardening over the weekend and I swear she ate her own weight in worms! Both the cream and the gold are excellent layers and seldom miss a day. I love them. Saronne
2 of my CLBs are quite flighty, but entertaining. I had to catch them the other day to spray them with Johnson's mite spray - they were NOT happy (they sulked), but have since cheered up. ali-s
Lots of replies from you all and you have put my mind at rest. I don't mind flighty, Lily (the first one) was very flighty and no doubt new Lily will be flighty as well. Still waiting for the email from the breeder, I want them more than ever now so fingers crossed.
grageomat
U need to get one they are beautiful!! Mine certainly has not keeled over and she went through a very traumatic experience of me chasing her for over an hour back and fore between 2 fields behind my house! If anything i was ready to keel over. Flighty indeed, naughty little madam!
chuckmum6
My legbar is a hoot, she is always where I am and is certainly nosy and a bit daft. She isn't a great fan of change. When I extended the cube train and then when I added the netting enclosure, she had a wobbler and spent the afternoon trying to fly over the 6ft fence ???? Not sure why! She has had both wings clipped as a result, she was still able to get onto the cube roof and limber up to take off over the fence after one wing clip, she can't now. Otherwise she is very funny and friendly. She lays lovely blue eggs! Get one or two or three ......

ali-s
Just received an email from the breeder. I will be getting 2 POL Cream Legbars and 2 POL French Copper Marans sometime in May. Now I will have to wait patiently until I get the email to say they are ready. Better start saving some pennies
ISCA
I got a Cream Legbar hen last weekend, she is called Meep Meep (as in roadrunner). Of my six 9 week old youngsters, she is the most confident. She is the only one who puts herself to bed in the coop at dusk (the others all have to be lifted in as they prefer to try and sleep in a pile under the raised hen house!) She is the only one who roosts on the perches at night. She is quite flighty and loves to try and fly around the coop, setting all the others off into panic mode So far she has definately demonstrated she has the most character of them all. chicken bark
Really pleased to read all this about cream legbars. After much deliberating and questions to you all about all sorts of stuff, I have decided to get 3 more hens - two of which I planned to be cream legbars. It seems as though I've made a good choice! Should be getting them as chicks so that will be even more exciting!
