An unusual weekend

Recommended Posts

We've got an unusual weekend booked. Well Sunday anyway. We are going on a Segway Safari. For anyone who doesn't know what a segway is - it's a futuristic form of transport, consisting of two wheels on a single axle with a stick / steering column in the middle. They are self balancing by using gyroscopes.

We go off into the woods rigged up in helmets & knee pads on these segways. Should be great fun! They also do sphereing where you roll down the hill inside a giant ball, but I don't fancy that.

Afterwards we are picking up 5 pekin chicks. I can't wait!

We saw Peter Gabriel in Birmingham a few years ago and he was using them on stage - they looked fab!

I think there is some problem in using them in the UK - you can't use them on the pavement/footpaths because they are vehicles, but you can't use them on the road because they don't have a licence and MOT. Yet they let mobility scooters use both road and pavement and they fall into exactly the same category!

oooh, we're doing this soon, so let us know what it's like. It was an xmas present. I'm a bit scared though....do they just hand them over and let you go off into the woods, or is it an actual race with other people? I'm a bit worried that we'll turn up to find that I have to do it alongside twenty rugby players on a stag do!

You get about 15 minutes training, then go off into the woods following the instructor. We have to wear long trousers & long sleeves - kneepads, elbow pads & a helmet. We will lokk good. There are 10 of us going. However only 2 of us will come home with chicks...me & hubby!

Taking a picnic too. I just hope the weather holds - or else the segway safari will be cancelled. :(

I'm back & totally shattered after such an adrenaline rush. Absolutely fabby it was. We had to wear some right good gear. These sort of mesh jackets with turtle back protectors & built in elbow protectors, shin & knee pads, wrist protectors & the really heavy proper crash helmets. I could never be a biker as the helmets are so heavy! We looked so good.

We stepped on our Segways - which really feel wierd - like a wobbly board under your feet. We had some training doing like a slalom round the flags - I couldn't stop giggling.

Then we followed the quad bike round the field, through a farm gate, through a field of sheep, under the trees, round a pond - we gave it some real welly up this steepish hill, round a field & then we stopped at a farm gate. The man then put it on 'free' mode so it would go as fast as we wanted. Whoa! they can shift. We went over a few rutted bits & it really wobbles under your feet. But you just grip onto the handlebars, lean forward, keep your feet firmly on the board & go with the wobble!

Another lady & her grand daughter had fell off them just before we got there - but they were going too fast over the ruts & also when turning.

It was brill & we want to go again! The photos are being emailed to us later, as on the other peoples camera! Totally exhilarating & recommended! Our legs were like jelly when we got our the Segways.

Afterwards, we had our picnic - just before the heavens opened - we were really lucky.

Then we went to collect our chicks. The lady showed us all her chickens, she had some gorgeous ones & even some babies off my chickens..what a small world!

I now have 5 lavender / lavender cuckoo pekin chicks under their electric hen. I can't name them yet as they all look alike, so I am waiting for some leg rings to come & then they will be named. They are simply gorgeous. I think there is definitely one boy. I have had a wonderful day, now all I need is for the Millefleur eggs under Button to hatch & the day would be truly perfect! :D
