Well the obvious answer is that turkeys hatched now would probably make good Christmas dinners!

I would imagine that otherwise rehoming the males would be the same as trying to rehome a cockerel

Bear in mind that they are so much larger than chickens so as they grow you'll need a big house and lots more room for them. Also I believe its not that recommended to mix them with chickens (though some do) as they can pass on a disease to the chooks, cant for the life of me remember what that is now..

Why turkeys? :)

If its for pets, they have huge personalities, but they need more space compared with chickens and often roost in trees overnight if they FR.

They can pass on blackhead to chickens so it isn't recommended, but I have seen them kept together fine :)

They're a lot louder too

Males (and females) make good christmas dinners - depends on the breeds, as you can get pure breeds which you might find easier to rehome, but still hard.

Only other thing if you're thinking about raising them, is that they'll need more protein as they're game birds. You'll have to feed them turkey crumb, or a game crumb :D

If you worm them all very regularly then apparently it can be ok (re Blackhead). I was thinking of hatching some, but most def not as pets, I love xmas dinner  I am not sure if I will this year now, as I am in a quandry about housing (and financing it lol!). Could you not just buy a poult? If you only want one you probably don't want to risk the suplus???
