has anyone ever had their eglu/cube stolen?

Recommended Posts

just praying on my mind a bit :anxious: they cost alot of money and also have a high secondhand value and im worried that it'll be taken from my garden

has anyone had the horrid experience of this or do you take preventative measures like chaining it to a tree or similar?

my garden is very over-looked and accessible :(

Well for a kick-off my garden looks much better in photos than in real life, you can't see the seeded patches very well where the girls trashed the grass over winter. I have no weeds in the grass as the chooks ate them all , and no poo on the grass as they are banned from the lawn now :( because we have just planted out loads of veg & they'd scroff the lot given half a chance.

Down by the run its all earthy as I have netting across the bottom of the garden where the hens can free range around the (cube purple) & WIr, & behind the shed.

Eglus can be protected with Smar"Ooops, word censored!"er, as can all of your possessions.

Google smart water and you will see how effective it is. some local authorities will supply the product at a discounted rate and your insurance company may reduce your premiums :D Everyone happy

Tricky (green eglu)PP (More to follow in Omlet WIR :?: )

My cube wouldn`t fit through the gate in one piece (not that I think anyone could lift it).

I called our Home insurer and double checked that the (cube green)(cube green)(green eglu) were covered as they were in the garden as some insurers can be funny about stuff like that.

I do worry that anyone who entered my garden could just open the coop door and take the hens. I have read several stories on other forums of poultry keepers who have had their birds taken but they have been breeders of show birds/ rare breeds mainly.

Theft of garden chickens is unlikely but thieving so and sos will steal anything they think they can get a price for. Trying to fence a chicken may not be so easy though  and not many will want to take them for a table bird when they can just steal one from Tesco!

now that you mention can either Hens or Cube be stolen, we didnt really think much to it but our gate onto our drive we padlock when we are'nt here to prevent anyone coming in (as much as a locked gate can prevent) and the front's just a little gate and as manyh say the cubes massive and heavy as i found out when relocating it earlier today for a more permanent position! we shall get onto out insurers about the Cube being covered and smart water aswell, it would be a shame if our girls were stolen but we might have to think about putting a little lock on the door to prevent or cause a person wanting to steal them a bit longer time in which to do so and hopefully that would deter them completely!
