Chicken Licken
Hello again. I am changing jobs in the autumn and will be increasing my journey to work to about 50 miles a day. I wondered if anyone could give me any advice or recommendations on cars. I currently have a citroen C3 which apart from slightly dodgy electrics has been fine but has now done 114000 miles. I was wondering about a low emission diesel (for the lower road tax and increased MPG) - something like a skoda fabia hatchback - does anyone have one or anything like it. I find the whole car showroom/ sales man thing a challenge - so any advice would be great - thanks all.
Redwing
I have had two Renault Clios as company cars and they were both ace, they were 1.5 diesels, 115g CO2 so cheap road tax. Driving mostly on motorways I got over 70 to the gallon, its apparently one of the most 'frugal' engines around - the models I had were 53 and 04 reg so the older style, Both ran faultlessly I now have a BMW 1 series diesel it has a 2l engine but only 119g of CO2 so cheap road tax, it does about 55 to the gallon and is a nice sporty drive
Purplemaniacs
Hi have a Renault Clio, new shape about 2 years old, don't like it at all, went into Renault dealer yesterday to book it a service and the man asked if I liked it as he knew I had bought it from them last summer, he regretted asking the question. Before that I had the older shape Clio and loved it got over 50 to the gallon it was petrol, not sure what engine but I could ask OH if you wanted to know, DD has it now, wished I had kept it. Seagazer
My DD hired a Skoda Fabia last year to come back from uni and she really, really liked the car. She said it drove really well and she managed to get all her junk - sorry belongings - in it I've had a couple of Clios (old shape) one automatic (didn't like it, wouldn't change up properly) and a manual petrol, lovely car. Had a new shape clio whilst mine was in the garage and didn't like it at all.
miss_spent
I have a new shape Fiesta (58 plate) and I adore it. I get about 64mpg out of it (diesel) and pay £35 a year road tax. They have some funky colours (mine is pink!). My OH describes it as "pokey" - meaning quick rather than small! Guess it depends what size you need. The boot isn't huge, but I get all sorts in with the seats down
stoice
I have an older shape clio and loved it initially, it now however, is showing signs of 'typical clio problems' - one which may or may not mean a new ECU (Not cheap) So I've been test driving or sitting in a range of smallish cars on the look out for a replacement. The top of my list has to be the new shape fabia, which is really a VW polo without the expensive name tag - it seems like a tardis and the weasel version sounds perfect (Cheap tax too) They only do 5 door so extra hidden cost unlike other brands. It depends on your budget really. If money wasn't an issue I'd get a golf bluemotion as it says you can drive to Edinborough from london and back on one tank! The new fiesta looks cool too but when you consider that you could get a mini for the same price it put me off somewhat for the budget I'd be prepared to pay. I liked the look of the new Kia venga - they have a 7 year warranty from new (It's not old enough to find a second hand one but i believe kia are also offering a 7 year warranty on some second hand cars too) The nissan note looked good, as does the mitsubishi colt (Based on the floor plan of the four door smart car they made) although the boot was TINY. The suzuki swift looks lovely but again i found the boot a little too small. So after all that, i still compare them all to the fabia and it seems to be a winner in my book.
