Maggots in my fridge!

Recommended Posts

:vom:

DS is home from college (he's doing a BSc in Aquaculture and Fishery management). A VERY keen fisherman he often pops pots of maggots into the fridge overnight. I'm OK with that.

I am NOT OK with live maggots wriggling all over the bottom of my fridge because he has put them into a plastic bag with a hole in it!

Needless to say, contents were removed from the fridge and DS was handed a large bottle of Dettox and a cloth....:roll:

They often get a handful of left over maggots at the end of a fishing trip. They gobble them up so fast and then you can see and feel their crops moving!

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly

I don't know why she swallowed a fly - perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,

That wriggled and wiggled and tiggled inside her;

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;

I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a bird;

How absurd to swallow a bird.

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;

I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a cat;

Fancy that to swallow a cat!

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;

I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady that swallowed a dog;

What a hog, to swallow a dog;

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;

I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a cow,

I don't know how she swallowed a cow;

She swallowed the cow to catch the dog,

She swallowed the dog to catch the cat,

She swallowed the cat to catch the bird,

She swallowed the bird to catch the spider,

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly;

I don't know why she swallowed a fly - Perhaps she'll die!

There was an old lady who swallowed a horse...

She's dead, of course

its a horrid ending, couldnt they give her intergestion instaed?

He'd better have cleared them all up...they pupate into the most ghastly blow flies....or the few which escaped Buffie's beak did...I'd forgotten we'd had a breakout & suddenly these whoppers arrived in the middle of a cold snap, so unseasonably early for flies :vom::vom::vom:

Is it ok to feed the leftover dyed maggots to the girls? My YS has taken up fishing so sometimes buys them but he tends to just chuck them in the river afterwards. I was worried about the dye affecting the girls.

We had to have them in the fridge on the boat we rented for holiday last year, that was my first time and it was :vom: but I did get used to it in the end.

I read somewhere only to give them white maggots, I can't remember where though :think:

:lol::lol: @CM

I used to go fishing when we were little and spent all our hols in Norfolk, I was never allowed to keep the maggots in the fridge, so as the cottage was very cold I used to leave them (in their pot) in the downstairs loo. I have no idea how they escaped, but my mother discovered them one night when she went barefoot, in the dark to the loo. I wasn't very popular. :roll:

Reminded me of my dad when I was a child. He used to keep his maggots in the fridge, livebait(when it was legal to use it) in the bath and his motorbike in bits on the kitchen floor :lol::lol:

I remember mum coming home from work one day to find a huge live pike in the bath (parents are Polish and they like their pike ....yeuk!!!!!)

Had our bins emptied this morning.

Went to put in a bin bag of rubbish just now and lo and behold the floor of the bin was alive. :vom:

Tipped them out for the birds in the hedge to munch on, couldn't face collecting them and taking them down to the field for the girls.

Also think the neighbour might ring for the men with nice jackets with ever so long sleeves... :anxious::lol:
