Unsecure chicken perches

Good morning everyone!

 

Just wondering what drinkers everyone has found to be good. My girls currently have 2 x glugs, but these get dirty really quick, I had some superglugs which they couldnt get the hang of, so now am looking into perhaps hanging drinkers. I have WIR with aubiose so it needs to be off the floor -

 

Any suggestions?

I mainly use these now, but I do still have some smaller 1.5l ones for chicks and one or two groups of bantams. I bought mine from our local farm supplies place, though I think they're a similar price on ebay anyway.

 

But I wouldn't be without my old-style peanuts as feeders.

I have a glug that I have lowered so that they can drink out of the top (didn't like drinking out of the bottom) and 2 dog bowls in the garden that they much prefer.

I use a 6 litre hangining plastic drinker for 6 chickens.

It's sturdy. I hang it off the ground at the height of the chickens backs, then it does not collect debris they have kicked about. It was useless on the floor as they would fill it with Hemcore and poop

2 superglugs and 2 glugs. I now raise the glugs up higher and put a brick in front of it so they can reach. It has stopped them kicking aubiose into the water every 5 minutes.

By far and away the best are the 3l ones of these, they are sturdy and easy to click together, the top can be set upseide down for filling too which isnt the case with some - as the bottom is wider than the top they are also easy to knock ice out of in winter!

i use a ceramic dog bowl that is on the floor in their run and fill it up about 3 times a day. they have a superglug too which they use as a back up.

 

they love putting their beaks all the way into the water in the dogs bowl and taking a good swig they cant do this with the superglug. they will use the superglug tho if the dogs bowl is empty. clever chickens

Mine have a normal glug in their run- they couldnt get the hang of the superglug either.

 

Preferably though, they will wait until they get out into the garden and stand under the water fountain with their beaks open

I am with Redwing here.........I have the 6lt, 12lt and the 3lt in these drinkers and the 3lts are the best. Any bigger and they are difficult (although not impossible) to click back together properly although I am a bit of a shorty.

 

Regency also sell drinker stands for about a fiver which I think are the best things EVER!!!

In my WIR I have a 6 litre one that pushes together easily and stands on double layer of bricks so no aubiose gets in it. I think that size would be too heavy to hang

I agree that glugs are rubbish for keeping the water clean, I use these

 

 

I have two so that I can rotate them through the dishwasher after I have rinsed them. They stay reasonably clean. I also have 2 x 1 litre bunny bottles that they like to drink from.

Thanks everyone- I've been ordering .....regency poultry, a 3l drinker- which my girl egg money has paid for - bless them, they are earning their keep now!!
