Sleeping Outside!

Recommended Posts

For the last few nights, two of our chooks (we have four altogether) have taken to sleeping outside the Eglu. They perch on the edge of the shelf which the Eglu stands on, very close together. They both seem happy enough :) Would this be because of the hot weather do you think? We were worried they were being pushed out :? but it does seem to coincide with the warm nights. Just wondered if this is usual :?

I've got 3 newbies, all bantams (wyandotte and 2 RIR) and I've had to go out the last few nights to 'evict' the Wyandotte from sleeping 'in the entry' so to speak, as the other 2 can't get past once she's there. They are fairly timid and a little dim about how to assert themselves, plus the Wyandotte is bigger so 'mom' has to come to the rescue.

Two of my four hens have decided to sleep out in the run on a perch about 4' off the ground. They seemed quite happy out there and looked cute, so I didnt disturb them. BUT, I wasnt prepared for the very loud bokking they began about 5ish every morning. It was 4.45am on Saturday when they started, so I have reluctantly decided to put them to bed. I went out last eve at 9.15pm and lifted them down and popped them into the coop. They objected for about 5 minutes by a loud chirring sort of noise but eventually went up the ladder to bed! You would think that because they were already out and about, with food and water available, they would just get on with it - NO!!
