So its been a year since I last bought an obscure pet (sheep) So having been restrained for the last year feel its time for the Redwing household to expand again I am going to look at some Rhea tomorrow

 

Hubby has taken to shuffling about zombie like with a glazed look and the postman has herniated himself from carrying the feed bill but hey ho its a sacrifice I'm willing to make

I was at the vet's last night.. he has 2 enormous upright incubators containing Rhea, Emu and Ostrich eggs - a friend of his had had a bad hatch rate at his farm and asked Clive to see if he can improve on it.

 

I can't believe how big the eggs were and the thickness of the shells - no candling those I guess!

Well I bought two Rhea and they are fab

 

They are about 14 inches tall at the moment and very sweet and friendly - strange to pick up though as they are all neck and legs!

 

They are called Puck and Toronto

I have no idea how much room they need officially but they will be free to roam our field once they are 9 months old

 

Most pens I have seen with these in seem to be at least 10m x 10m
