mostin
I'm going to email tomorrow or the day after............just so they don't think we are going away . I'm glad the BHWT has been drawn to this, another feather campaign as was done to Mr Kipling may be in order at this rate *stamps foot*
jess1merlin
Just emailed saying that however much I like their products I will not be purchasing anything else in the New Covent Garden range until they change to free range eggs

I'm glad the BHWT has been drawn to this, another feather campaign as was done to Mr Kipling may be in order at this rate *stamps foot* I've not been on much recently. Are Mr Kipling cakes now made with free range eggs? Sorry if this is a thick question.
Tutti Frutti
There are real horrors in barns. If anyone is emailing NCG again, perhaps you could include this link? Does anyone have any other links? I remember seeing a website that was tearing Freedom Food apart - there was a photo of an RSPCA honcho smiling with a farmer, with a chicken in the foreground clearly straining as she stretched to reach a drinker But I can't find it on the web! Aaagh
sadietoo
I have received a reply. I shall send the following reply Dear .... "Thank you for your reply but in my opinion Barn Eggs are no better than Battery. I am sure you are aware that many other manufacturers are already providing free range eggs in their products (including Hellman's mayonnaisse) and I am disappointed that a manufacturer of what purports to be a premium product is indulging in cost cutting at the expense of animal welfare. It has also made me wonder about the sourcing of other ingredients used by NCG? When this policy is revised perhaps you could let me know. I will not be buying your products again until I have some assurance that NCG is trading ethically. I will miss the Benghal Lancers soup! They won the good egg award as they promised to change to free range eggs, but I don't know if they have or not yet. I have got so used to not buying them that I haven't checked the packets for ages. They better keep their word after winning that award, or there will be uproar .
The Dogmother
I don't think that Mr Kipling are using free range yet; can't find any proof on the internet that they are, but happy to stand corrected if they have moved over from the dark side. I haven't heard from my BHWT contact, so am going to email them directly via the site..... Jamie and Hugh too.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I have to say, as far as flavour goes - BLAND!!! Didn't know about the battery issue, but my lovely hubby splashed out and got me a carroty one because he knows I love quiche and thought it would be special. Tesco Value is more flavourful. It was like egg-bound cardboard. RUBBISH!!! On the other hand, I have been on the tasting end of three home made quiches recently which were heaven in food form and supposedly quick and easy to make. Who needs New Covent 'overly salty soups' Garden anyway?
Redwing
I had the same standard email Perhaps we need to draft a standard reply and start sending that back Maybe they would get the message then Their goods are reasonably expensive so i am surprised they dont seem to care about sourcing quality and ethical ingredients

The Dogmother
Clare, have you tried him on Twitter? Good idea Claire. I don't use Twitter though, could anyone on here post him a link to this thread?
Charlottechicken
Another thought, I just looked and his website has a forum. Wonder if it's an idea to mention this on there, word might get back to him? Edited to add: Clare, he appears to be on all the social networking sites.
The Dogmother
I'll have a look at his forum, but I don't do any networking sites.
majuka
Even a few of the standard Sainsburys desserts now have free range eggs in them and they are hardly expensive.
Charlottechicken
I don't do any networking sites. Me neither Clare. Interestingly the website http://www.newcoventgardenfood.com shows they are on facebook, and confirms the egg content of the quiches is listed as being pasteurised egg. There's a link on the homepage for anyone who uses facebook.

migsy
I'm on Facebook so I had to "like" NCG in order to comment, but this is what I put under their quiche blurb. "Not so nice for chickens though!!! A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I've commented on the facebook wall too. Come on facebookers - let's snow them with some comments!
Lavenders_Blue
I was just going to post something on the facebook wall, but I wonder if they might be deleting comments? Someone (an omleteer?) has posted: 'Just been reading the quiche comments below and am pretty amazed! You don't use free range eggs?! But you're a company promoting natural goodness! It's not that hard. If M&S and Sainsbury's can do it there is no excuse really is there? Plus, they taste so much better than barn or battery eggs. And your carrot and coriander quiche could really do with the extra flavour!' .... only there are no quiche comments below. Where have they gone?! If you are deleting comments, then shame on you NCG!
