Janepie33
Has anyone tried this? I did a taster session in Richmond Park and got hooked, bought my own poles and took them for an outing in the park on Friday. It's quite tiring but such a good all over body workout and not expensive after the initial outlay for poles. I went walking with a group of people, but felt a bit daft as I was the only one with poles - trying to persuade others to join me!
Redwing
I've done it in Finland where its really hard because of the snow! I've never plucked up the courage to try it in the UK though
sadietoo
I've tried it and think it's really good. ....unfortunately it just isn't widely accepted in the UK and so consequently you do get comments...and I confess although I'm usually indifferent to others' opinions of me, I will only Nordic Walk in a group...and my nearest one is twenty miles away, .... It's such a shame because it is fantastic exercise.
Clur
How does using the poles help? I've seen people round here walking with them, but not really understood how it gives you more of a work out than a normal walk?
bronze
If I'm not in real need (physio etc) I really can't imagine being taught how to walk properly. I walk to get out, away, in the beautiful landscape not to charge around with poles trying to get fit. But thats just me. The idea of going walking in a group like that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I like walking to escape. On the other hand its cheaper than going to the gym which I have never understood either. People drive to the gym... why not run there touch the door then run back. Egluntyne
Lots of info about it **here**.
Lesley
I don't do Nordic Walking but I do use walking poles - two of them..........I can't understand why people use just one? Two poles are great for stability and even if just meandering along your arms do take some of the strain off the legs.
Chickvic
I'm really tempted to go and find out more.
