OK, so as some of you know, i don't do Ebay, but Phil has listed an IKEA kitchen cabinet for me; the buyer, before he won it asked if it would be OK to collect it at 5.30pm tonight. Phil replied that it would have to be after 6pm when I would be back from work. This bloke won it, but hadn't been in contact to arrange payment and collection so I called just now and spoke to Mrs Buyer who was 'just about to call me'.

 

It turns out that despite living only 40 minutes away, the only times that she or her OH could collect it would be when I am at work. I have offered her any evening this week, or even during my lunch break but the times just don't suit her and she accused me of being inflexible! I can't move the thing on my own, so it's not even a case of me delivering it for her. She rang off in a huff saying that I ought to re-list it then.

 

Since it was sold, another bidder who missed the final moment has contacted Phil to say that if it doesn't go, he would like to offer £10 more for it.

 

Now, I know nothing abut Ebay ethics, so could anyone advise if it would be OK to talk to this other bidder?

Yes you can, i had to do it myself recently when someone won something and that was the last I heard of them.

 

I think you need to file a non-payment thingy against them, which takes a few days to clear (hopefully someone who has done it more than once can tell you how). That will rid you of the sellers fees and you can then offer it to the next bidder on a second chance offer.

 

It puts you off dealing on ebay, but fortunately there are more good 'uns than wrong 'uns.

I'm not sure about the non-payment bit as they were paying cash on collection. It was made clear to them before they bought that I wouldn't be in until after a certain time. Now I can understand that she's having trouble picking it up when I am around, but I have bent over backwards to offer her any lunchtime or evening this week, and there is nowhere to leave it for her to collect.

 

It is a very large item, nearly as tall as me and needs two people to move it. I am not sure whether the other person actually bid on it or was just watching it; I have asked Phil to check.

 

My concern is that 1) they may give Phil negative feedback, and 2) would contacting this other bloke be considered as 'operating outside ebay'?

If they don't buy it they can't give feedback. Go on the help secton under MyEbay or top of screen and you will see a list of options - Ebay and Paypal are very good at sorting out problems. I recently reported a seller for non receipt of goods - I won and was refunded into my paypal account. When you have done everything once you will find it really easy, good luck

 

Edit - as long as you wait 7 days to sell the item after the auction ended you call sell to other bloke.

Phil is stressed out about it and seems to think that I can load it into my car and deliver it to them I can't even move the blumming thing and it has been stuck in my dining room for 5 months, waiting for him to list it! So far as I am concerned, it is now down to the buyer to sort themselves out re collection.

 

The eveb dafter thing is that he listed an armchair of his (he is based in Bucks) and the winner then contacted him to say that he lived in East Sussex and had only just noticed that it was 'collect only' and could Phil courier it? I do despair

Hope you get it sorted, Claret. It's so frustrating dealing with the 1% who don't play by the rules .

 

I've have had a couple of non-payers (with no communication ). One eventually paid up after a polite email (no explanation ) and the other is about to get the polite email. Why bid on something you can't be bothered to pay for (or at least explain why you haven't)?

Hmmm, the plot thickens...

 

It seems that Mr Buyer and Mrs Buyer haven't conversed about this - she seemed to think (when I spoke to her) that they were paying cash on delivery, but Phil says that payment arrived in his Paypal account from them late last night and he has only just seen it when he logged on.

 

We have decided to give them a couple of days to talk to each other about it and try to be more sensible about collecting it before contacting them to see what they decide to do. If they really can't come to get it, then P will have to refund them and offer it to the other bloke.

 

And I thought that Freegle was a pain sometimes!

Was their a stipulation that the thing must be paid for & collected within a certain time frame?....I give my buyers a week to sort things out,then its put through as an unpaid item.

Its always worth doing,especially for big items.

 

If I were you,& I don't know how long ago they won it,but I would give them a deadline to collect it by.

They contacted you prior to bidding & you told then exactly when they could & could not collect - you have done everything by the book.

 

If the worse comes to the worse & they do leave Phil a neg,you can always leave a follow-up comment explaining their lack of co operation.

Isn't it best to have cash on collection for these things, rather than a Paypal payment, as the goods are not being sent by a trackable means?

 

Might be an idea to ask customer to sign to say they have received the goods, when they come and collect.

They won it on Sunday, but were in touch prior to winning it to ask if it was OK to collect Tuesday evening at 5.30pm (today) hence me assuming that they were in a hurry. Phil had already told them that 5.30pm was too early, but that I could make after 6pm.

 

The idea of getting them to sign for it is a good one - I will do that if they get back to us. Phil thought that they were paying by cash (and Mrs Buyer seemed to think so too) but when he looked this morning, they had paid by Paypal.

 

I'll wait now and see if they get back to us.

Well, this has reared its ugly head again

 

Phil spoke to Mr Buyer on Friday and said that I could be in after 8pm on Saturday (it meant racing back from docsquid's get-together ) for them to collect. I was back before 8pm and hadn't had any confirmation from them either way so rang them to see if they'd be pitching up as I had stuff that I could be getting on with. Mrs Buyer told me that they'd emailed Phil (he hasn't received this) to say that they couldn't collect at the weekend, but that she'd ring me about collecting it during the week.

 

The latest is that she called me this morning to say that she will collect it between 8 and 8.30am tomorrow. I have told her that I need to leave at 8.30am to get to work, and advised that she will need a large car to collect it (have had freecycle people pitch up with minis to collect wardrobes before now )

 

We shall see.......

Is there any way you can get it out of your house & onto the pavement for them to collect - as you have received payment it is technically theirs now,so you can get it out of your home if you want to

Not really anywhere to leave it without blocking the pavement - I still have the recycling bins from the street party in the front garden, awaiting collection tomorrow She'd previously asked me to leave it somewhere for her, but being in a terraced house, there's just nowhere to leave stuff like that.

 

I just can't get over her gall being so difficult and stroppy, then accusing me of being difficult!

 

She'd blooming well better turn up tomorrow, I won't be late to work waiting for her!

We have someone else interested from when it was initially listed and they've offered more money too.

I far prefer selling on ebay when only normal postage is involved. I hate waiting for people to arrive. We once had a guy who was coming from London on 'his way' to Durham, not exactly a direct route, and he got caught in traffic and arrived at 10.30pm when he had hoped to arrive at about 5pm. He had a real job squeezing the items into his sporty car too. He was a nice guy though and kept in touch apologising thoughout.

 

We recently had a chap who managed to squeeze a metal high sleeper bed into a Skoda Roomster I still don't know how he did it, but I was glad to see it gone.

 

Hopefully Phil will get good feedback, although we find that people leave less and less these days.

I really hope they give positive feedback but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not. The annoying thing is that sellers can no longer give negative feedback about buyers in all my dealings on Ebay I've never had a problem with sellers, but with buyers!
