A unknown cat came into our garden this am when I was sorting the girls - my dogs went mad and chased it and it ran into the WIR. In the chaos the mesh separating the baby pekins got pushed over and the bantams got out - my beautiful lavender and millefleur were killed I think possibly from shock as neither are marked). I only got the millefleur on Saturday - she was only tiny and Duck the lavender was my pride and joy - I am heartbroken, I am so careful with them - the little frizzle and wyandotte are OK as I managed to grab them Don't know what to do with myself .

I am so sorry to hear that. How awful for you. You must be in shock. If you can take any comfort from this, it sounds as though they did not suffer and you have done your best by them. It is just a shocking chain of events that you could have done nothing to prevent. Thinking of you.

Oh that's terrible - what a freak accident. You poor thing and your poor chicks - it's little comfort to you but it sounds like it was over quite quickly.

You've bought tears to my eyes, I have them in a little box and have stroked them for ages, I think they may have just got crushed by the mesh or the dogs in the mayhem. I have just been and tidied up the WIR and have put the little frizzle in the eglu with the wyandotte (there is only a couple of weeks difference) and they seem to be getting along OK.

Oh no, I'm so sorry for you but there was nothing you could have done to avoid such a freak incident as this. I know from recent experience it's hard not to blame yourself but you really musn't, you obviously loved and cared about them.

I'm cross with myself as I don't usually have the dogs in the garden unless the babies are in the eglu but I was introducing the new to the others with a partition at one end of WIR - normally they are in the eglu

What a terrible thing to happen. But please do not feel guilty or blame yourself as it was a freak accident and there was no way you could have anticipated it.

Thanks everyone (waves to Mill Hill) when I look back now it was so mad - the cat ran straight back out leaving complete uproar; if I had 4 hands I could have caught them all My dogs will be left in now - they never chase our own cats but anything else is fair game.
