Not a fish expert Laura, and unfortunately I know a terrible joke about fish and eyes, which I certainly won't post here (elsewhere if you look the rest of you, but not you Laura). But in my very limited experience of keeping fish, it sounds pretty grim, doesn't it? Could it be a form of white spot?

Come on all you fish experts out there!!

I think it could be pop - eye. When you look at the fish from the front is the lens swollen?

If you go to Pets at Home (or many pet shops) you can buy the treatments for about £3.99 I think you will want the one called 'Internal infections' I can't remember what number it is as there is a large range. These are the best medicines and are by 'Interpet'. If you open the box there is a leaflet inside which has a chart on it that list all the common ailments and the appropriate medicine. Act quickly though and be sure to give the right dose for you tank size and repat after 4 days if no improvment.

Due to the warmer temperatures outside the ambient temp' of the tank will rise and fall quite alot which can stress the fish. Whitespot is very common becuase of this.

Hope this helps

at least we get a reward for our obsession in tasty eggs and the odd feathery cuddle - what do you get from a goldfish??!

Ooooooooo - you'll have Laura on the warpath.

Fish are supposed to be very relaxing and bring over a feeling of tranquility  .

Unless the tank turns dark green overnight, and the fish all start swimming on their sides, as happened with our last 2 goldfish.

Now, chickens - they're VERY relaxing!

I killed my goldfish by accident once. I was drying my hair and my hairdryer conked out. I threw it down and forgot all about it. When I returned home later that evening, the hair dryer was blasting out on full heat. The thing had cooled down and I'd forgotten to switch it off and the room was about 100 degrees. The fish was floating!

(Sorry again Laura  )

Sounds similar to my fish problem Shona apparently according to aforementioned fish forum its the nitrates level

Sorry Laura

Oh well, they're all in fishy heaven now (down the loo, actually), and chookiehubbie says we're never getting fish again, he thinks that 3 kids, 2 cats, 4 chickens, 1 stoopid dawg and us are more than enough for any family!

:P Laura .. I am with you ..... shame on the rest for simply rubbishing the humble goldfish, and his/her pet attributes. :x .

They may have some fungal type thing .. best to trawl the water treatment bottles for info ... or if you have any "Safewater" or other products, sometimes they have a quick refernce leaflet in the box. .

My fish is 6 years old .. and taps the glass when he sees me, and knows when its tea time ... so not so stupid afterall. He has also come back from the "dead" a few times ... so is pretty 8) , and he looks good too, will post a pic in the other pets album. :P

Shona  ! You were seriously stressed out over your chickens yesterday!! Relaxing! Ha!!

Yeah, well, but, you see, but, yeah, but, well, like, when they're NOT stressing me out with ploppy eggs, double yolkers, fighting, beasties etc, etc, they ARE relaxing, watching them potter about in the garden eating the pansies!

And I'd like to apologise to anyone who thinks I'm dissing fishes - I love a well kept, clean fish tank with fat fish swimming about happily, it's just that we always end up with the fish with finrot, or some such other mingy disease! Also once we ended up with 2 albino aquatic frogs who ate all the fish - bizarre story that ended up with the frogs laying spawn the same day my eldest was born.

:P Thanks Shona .. I was not taking it personally ... BUT ... fat fish is pretty 8) , and I know alot of peeps have been through hundreds of fish, as they can be hard to keep alive  . We have the opposite now .. as Fat Fish is going for a world record (we think) ... but he may have to move ... tank will not look good on new granite surface, in minimilised kitchen :lol: .

Only joking Laura ... he is free to swim his days with us .. might have to get a FUNKY new tank instead .. or a built in one ...
