miffy
I need to buy a new one, but they all seem to be made of plastic these days!!! I cant see that lasting long here when we get the gales, wondering what other omleteers have used.. some are really expensive are they worth it or should I just budget to buy a new cheapie every year
Millihelen
Mine is a Brabantia and it is very sturdy. It must be at least 10 years old, and is still going strong. I have always kept it covered when not in use, and the weather has worn out 3 covers, so maybe that has helped. I can't remember what it cost - I would not have bought one that was stupidly expensive, but it wasn't a cheap one.
Snoxy
I have one that can go up and down at different heights...no excuses from my 4 children who are all fully trained in hanging out and getting in the washing No more cries of...I can't reach
ali-s
I've got a Hills Quickdry. It is extremely robust and needs to be as we get ferocious gales up here in winter and we are quite exposed. It has a handle on the central pole to raise or lower the dryer. It can take two loads of laundry from a 8kg drum washing machine, I usually run out of pegs before I run out of space on the dryer. No idea how much it cost as it was here when we moved in. I think I know where it was bought so I will have a look today when I am in town. bluekarin
Don't buy cheap! I bought one from Homebase which after a few times of using it started to collapse when putting a load of washing on. And the manager of my local store had the cheek to say I was putting too much on!!! Needless to say that went back, we got a refund and I now have a 50l Jonelle (John Lewis brand). I've had it about 3 years now and its been great. Get loads of washing on, and I too run out of pegs before I have filled it up. I do still only use every other line though as I don't feel, with any of the rotary airers, sufficent air gets between the clothes to dry if you use every line. But that's just me
bronze
brabantia here too
Goldstar
I have got a galvanised steel one from Homebase. I have had it for 10 years. It has been out in all weathers and I have never covered it. There are no rust patches on it. I cant remember exactly what I paid, I think between 40 and 60 pounds.
donald
ohhh hold on let me find out my sister has a brilliant german rotary clothes drier it folds down and all the wires go back into their arms its excellent! so it keeps it clean its very neat! miffy
thank goodness for your replies...I almost bought a cheap one yesterday but will do more of a search for a steel one preferably but otherwise a brabantia knew I would get help and good advice here!! whoopsie
The Brabantia one sounds good as does the Minky (we're about to get a new one too). Argos had a special offer on for a galvanized drier too.

Ms Marple
I bought this one from Argos on Saturday so early days yet, but it had really good reviews. So far I am really impressed having used it all day yesterday. It is sooo big compared to my last one. Came with spike and cover. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/catalogId/1500001801/partNumber/8501082.htm?storeId=10001&referredURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.argos.co.uk%2Fstatic%2FProduct%2FcatalogId%2F1500001801%2FpartNumber%2F8501082.htm&jspStoreDir=argos&_%24ja=tsid%3A11674%7Cprd%3A2187177&referrer=COJUN&cmpid=COJUN Forgot to add. £55.
whoopsie
I've just bought a Brabantia 50ft rotary airer from Sainsbury's - they were cheaper than Argos AND I got Nectar points!! It's being delivered later this week.
miffy
I think I am driving myself crazy looking at these dryers!!!!! some say they are aluminium but surely that is a soft metal and will bend or break even if coated with whatever......am I just being dense????
Ms Marple
Aluminium has a low density but it is not a soft metal like lead (which has a high denstiy!)
miffy
sorry to be stupid , but does that still mean that aluminium will be less sturdy than say galvanised steel? we are on the north cornwall coast, so i need something to withstand gales and salt in the air, I am really confused (my brain was disengaged when I stopped the HRT )
whoopsie
You should be fine I reckon with either - get one designed to stay outdoors and with a good guarantee.

Am sure mine was a Brabantia and it lasted a good few years. Infact I only got rid of it as the end that went into the spike had rusted away. Discovered that when I made DH move it. He cut the rusted bit off but then it was around a foot shorter when in the ground so no good-lol
donald
http://www.amazon.co.uk/leifheit/s/qid=1281378447/ref=sr_pg_4?ie=UTF8&keywords=leifheit&rh=i%3Agarden%2Ck%3Aleifheit&page=4 Hi the best rotary drier I have seen and I want one but pricey is a leifheit retractable its on page 4 amazon £149! but apparently there is a better version my sister wishes she had got the more expensive one(gulp)! abwsco
£149?!?Does it wash the clothes for you too? I'd want it to hang them out and bring them in as well
donald
Hi I know the Leifheit is a bit pricey but it was mentioned to me that often you only raise the rotary once and they never go up and down like they should. My sister has a toddler and she folds it down every day but the bit that is brilliant is the wires go back into their housing! So every spring you dont have to wash the wires down(well thats what I do with black grime on my line..or on the washing) My cheapie is bent over and I just put up with its leaning stance, they are blooming ugly things, I do still prefer the old fashioned washing line and pole Donald. bronze
never had that problem with mine but then I use it during the winter too so it doesnt get stored mine only leans slightly because dh put the base in wonky its as tough as old boots otherwise and has a lot of use with my tribe

It s nice looking, and I like the one handed operation, but I could never justify spending over £100 on a washing line. My rotary is put up nearly every day when there are no clothes on it. Okay, the line doesn't get stored inside the arms, but there is a tie attached so you can make sure they are tied to it. I've just seen as well there is only a three year guarantee. My rotary was about £50 and I've had it 4 years at least already. I think I'd want to have a lifetime guarantee, like Brabantia do on a lot of their stuff.
