karena
Panic panic! Do I need to take my own box to put my chickens in when I collect them tomorrow, or will the seller provide one (or is that an 'it depends' questions)?
bridgy chooks
I think it's an 'it depends question'! When we first got ours, they supplied a cardboard pet carrier for £3 which we still use now 4 years on. When we got our latest girls from a farm, they asked if we had a box and were surprised that we did as they had some ready in case. I'm sure they will have something but might be a good idea to take something along just incase. Make sure it's got enough holes in it for them to breathe though! karena
Thanks bridgy chooks. We're going to a fairly big place so hopefully they expect unprepared amateurs Just had one of those heart dropping moments when I realised after being sooo excited all eve
Egluntyne
I would take one to be one the safe side. It would be a real shame to get there and find that they were expecting you to provide a carrier of some sort, and that they have nothing to put the hens in. I always take a cat carrier. Mollie333
I always take a cat carrier. or ten. JUST to be on the safe side.
Purplemaniacs
When we got our second pair of girls, first two were from Omlet. We had bought a cardboard pet carrier from a well known pet chain and we were told it was unsuitable and they supplied us with a more suitable container. They now sell cardboard carriers for your new girls. We must have been one of many unprepared people but we thought we were prepared!! bennett
whenever we have got chooks they always have boxes for you to take them home, they will of course charge you! but they are always usefull to keep. I have to say though a cat carrier is a good investment, althougi picked one up from the local car boot sale. Have a good first day with your new girls! scarlettohara
Take something just in case, there was an instance where chickens were put by the farmer in an unsuitable carrier
Bramble
Panic panic! Do I need to take my own box to put my chickens in when I collect them tomorrow, or will the seller provide one (or is that an 'it depends' questions)? Glad Im not the only one who stresses about a box to put chucks in! I got my three from BHWT and had nightmares for the week before that Id be turned away in disgrace for not having a suitable box!! Needless to say, my box, with "home made air vents" was fine and Ive kept it (just in case, I mean you never know, do you?!)
Snoxy
I have 6 boxes in my shed
chicken bark
I always take a cat carrier. or ten. JUST to be on the safe side. Quite right. I take 3. Seriously it is worth investing in a wire bottomed carrier of some sort - you can use it when your hens go broody!
hopetofinish
I will (all being well with the WIR) be collecting my first chooks in a couple of weeks. I think we have now settled on getting 4. I was hoping our small dog crate (wire - sized for a spaniel), with a small blanket draped over it would be fine. Any thoughts?
Patricia W
I've used a dog crate - best cover it as you say for the journey back
karena
Well I have them, and in the end I was provided with a box for £2.50.
