Gallina
This topic is for people who don't know what on earth the children on the "Girls of the '90s" thread are talking about, and who remember the 1960s and 1970s. You are of the 1960s if you: know what day of the week Andy Pandy and the Flowerpot Men were on remember the midi skirt and had mothers who wore Crimplene remember the Beverley Hillbillies, Dixon of Dock Green, Dr Kildare, Z-Cars, Arthur Haynes, Maverick, Mr Ed, Pinky & Perky, Rawhide, Ready Steady Go wore gloves for best when it wasn't cold, and had a school hat/cap ate Mother's Pride bread / jam sandwiches / brawn / spam / pilchards / condensed milk rode on a steam train for real used blankets and dismissed duvets as "continental quilts" had chilblains and/or measles and/or mumps I hope that is enough to get you started. Gallina
I can't supply the elixir of youth, but will see if they still do Phyllosan ("fortifies the over forties"). Do you remember when 40 was considered seriously elderly? The good thing about today is that 50 is the new 30 (which makes 30 the new 10, and that explains a lot). Our divvy (?divi) number was 63381. What was the one with the dreamy theme tune - come white horses, let me ride away....? Tartan edged trousers, bags etc and loving the Bay City Rollers Donny and Marie The Sweet - and bragging that I knew them cos the lead singer's mum lived next door to my gran and I had signed his plaster when he broke his leg! Tina C
I saw the Bay City Rollers at Birmingham Odeon! And I used to love the Double Deckers. I remember it as '6 white horse, snowy white horses, let me ride away' but I don't know what it was.

Snowy
Oh I love this - you've reminded me of so many things I thought I'd forgotten (if that makes sense!) And white horses - LOVED the song and the programme. Remember going on holiday to wales and making Mum and Dad endure it for the whole journey! On white horses let me ride away To my world of dreams so far away Let me run To the sun To a world my heart can understand It's a gentle warm and wonderland Far away Stars away Where the clouds are made of candy floss As the day is born When the stars are gone We'll race to meet the dawn You and I can only see the grey Of a sad and very lonely day That’s when I softly sigh On white horses Snow white horses Let me ride away Away Away Away To where the clouds are made of candy floss As the day is born When the stars are gone We'll race to meet the dawn You and I can only see the grey Of a sad and very lonely day That’s when I softly sigh On white horses Snow white horses Let me ride away Away

theherd123
Ok i need to ask this on behalf of the OH as its driving him crazy. He remembers a programme where a middle aged guy used to stand at a shop front and lift one arm and one leg but from the camera angle it looked like he was lifting both, he thinks he wore glasses - i think the OH is either losing the plot or winding me up! Does anyone remember this at all?

Cinnamon
Oh I love this - you've reminded me of so many things I thought I'd forgotten (if that makes sense!) And white horses - LOVED the song and the programme. Remember going on holiday to wales and making Mum and Dad endure it for the whole journey! One of my parents favourite stories was how I was fast asleep in the car when we drove across france to Nice, & this came on the radio & I woke up instantly. I loved it to bits. Does anyone else remeber "Follyfoot" ? I liked the Lightning Tree song too (i was a horsey girl!) I wore a lot of Skinny Rib jumpers, which make me shudder now, & bell bottom jeans of course. And the long hot summer of '76 (I think!), I remeber going sooooooooo brown, which would be a real on a child of 11 now! I don't think I ever wore sun protection, apart from maybe stealing a bit of my Mums Ambre Solaire oil, with its wonderful smell. I remember being in love with Jon from C.H.I.P.S & Hutch from Starskey & Hutch. I also had a cool Auntie who made me a pair of Roller Trousers, white with a tarten stripe, & finishing above the ankle. When my Mum went into care last year I was given a huge box of family photos & there are some truly hysterical ones of me as a child in the '70's. Not sure if I am brave enough to post them Wheres Dan - this thread is right up his street

I was born in '72 so only have memories of the late 70's. I remember c.h.i.p.s on a saturday morning, and Lassie and I was probably far to young to watch it, but we all used to sit and watch Tales of the Unexpected. Of course there was The Muppet Show, Different Stokes (whatcha' talkin' bout Willis) Mork and Mindy and does anyone remember The Red Hand Gang? Guest
Does anyone remember those little dresses which had a long elasticated waist, pale tartan effect pleated skirt and bobbles hanging from under the collar on laces? I absolutely hated mine! I must have been 6-7 years old.

Of course there was The Muppet Show I used to watch Tales of the Unexpected too - with my dad - oh the memories! I can recall one episode where a chap collected peoples little fingers The Muppet Show was just the coolest thing on TV when i was a kid I remember sitting down in my PJs with my borther to watch it, we each had a large glass of milk and got to choose 3 biscuits from the tin before it started. I loved the beginning of the programme where all the muppets were in their own little theatre box and as the song went on it pulled further back to reveal them all Edited April 21, 2007 by Guest
