Ness3103 Posted September 9, 2010 Share Posted September 9, 2010 the head teacher of my twins school employed her son as head of english last year and now the deputy head's son has been employed as the new pe teacher. all the teachers had to reapply for their jobs at the end of term and the pe teacher at the time was unsuccessful even though he was a very good teacher and all the children liked and respected him. i didn't think that they would be allowed to employ their own children and a lot of the mums are feeling uncomfortable about it as some really good and well loved teachers have lost their jobs. just wondered what you guys thought Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The primary school that my YD has just left have just employed the daughter of the head of infants. This however is very much in keeping with the family feel of the school, which has many very long standing members of staff and a lovely atmosphere. I would voice your concerns with the education authority, a school should have a balance of staff that allows for fair descision making. chickenNutter Posted September 10, 2010 Share Posted September 10, 2010 I don't think it is pure nepotism as teacher appointments are usually done by the Governors together with the Head, who would have had to declare an interest, and may have had to step out for that interview. You could ask the board of governors for details of how the appointments were made, in the interests of transparency perhaps, before you go the LEA. the bradley bunch Posted September 10, 2010 Share Posted September 10, 2010 before i got sick i did of lot of work about & within the education system and that doesn't sound very above board to me i wouldn't definately raise it with your Local Authority and they should investigate and make sure that the 'best' applicants were given those position. as far as i'm aware they would have to be pretty special to replace teachers already experienced and doing a good job at the school Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
